Registered Nurses, Retail Salespersons, and Supervisors of Retail Sales Workers, are the Top Jobs in March

April 23, 2025 - MONTGOMERY, AL - Data collected and analyzed by the Alabama Department of Workforce's Labor Market Information (LMI) Division shows that in March 2025, there were 82,983 job ads posted in Alabama, representing a monthly increase of 2.9%.

The five occupations with the most online job ads are for Registered Nurses, Retail Salespersons, Supervisors of Retail Sales Workers, Heavy and Tractor-Trailer Truck Drivers, and Customer Service Representatives with 12,518 ads placed for those occupations in March.

The HWOL data is compiled from all online job postings in the state, including those posted on the state's free online jobs database, AlabamaWorks.alabama.gov, and other sources, such as traditional job boards, corporate boards, and social media sites.

In March 2025, there were 29,564 total job ads with salaries, including 8,531 jobs ads with salaries of $70,000 and above; 7,702 jobs ads with salaries in the $35-49,000 range; 5,174 jobs ads with salaries in the $50-69,000 range, and 8,157 jobs ads with salaries less than $35,000.

The top two employers posting the most online ads in January 2025 were Huntsville Hospital with 1,141 ads and UAB Medicine with 826 ads. The rest of the top 10 were: Walmart (774), Domino's Pizza (767), Taco Bell (521), University of Alabama at Birmingham (514), AutoZone (444), Baptist Health (428), Jack's Family Restaurants (418), and Dollar General with 409 ads.

This month's HWOL Occupation Focus is Pharmacy Technicians. Those employed in this occupation prepare medications under the direction of a pharmacist and measure, mix, count out, label, and record amounts and dosages of medications according to prescription orders. They may also receive written prescription or refill requests and verify that information is complete and accurate, maintain proper storage and security conditions for drugs or Answer telephones, responding to questions or requests. Typically, employees in these occupations usually need one or two years of training involving both on-the-job experience and informal training with experienced workers and high school diploma or equivalent. The advertised median salary for Pharmacy Technicians in Alabama is $41,600. This occupation has 795 Annual Total Openings in Alabama.
