The Alabama Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program is excited to improve the experience for its participants by introducing the WICShopper app for smartphones and other devices. This new app has taken the place of the former Alabama WIC app, providing a valuable resource for participants to build and maintain healthy eating habits.
The WICShopper app makes it easy for Alabama WIC participants to keep track of their benefits in real-time, helping them stay updated on eligibility and monthly food package options. A key highlight of the app is its ability to help users find out which food items can be purchased with their specific WIC benefits. The app also offers valuable features, including locating nearby WIC clinics and authorized grocery stores, viewing past purchases, and browsing a current list of authorized food products. Users can also explore healthy recipes and cooking advice to encourage nutritious eating habits, along with quick access to helpful resources like breastfeeding support and nutrition education courses. One particularly convenient function is the UPC barcode scanning feature that lets users easily check if a product is approved as a WIC food item based on their individual benefits. Overall, the WICShopper app represents a significant advancement in helping Alabama families enrolled in the program access essential resources for healthier living.
"We've received amazing feedback since the launch of the WICShopper app. Users really appreciate the Scan Barcode feature. As we continue to introduce this app to all our participants across the state of Alabama, we're thrilled that they'll get to enjoy an even better shopping experience," said Reba Brannan, MPH, RD, LD, Northeastern District WIC Nutrition Director.
The Alabama WIC Program is dedicated to enhancing the accessibility of essential benefits and nutritious food products for families in need across the state. A key innovation in this effort is the WICShopper app, which reflects the program's commitment to serving over 110,000 moms, babies, and young children living throughout Alabama's 67 counties. WIC participants can easily download this user-friendly app on their smartphones and other devices by visiting either the Apple App Store or Google Play Store and searching for "WICShopper." This app is designed to be inclusive, ensuring that all Alabama WIC participants can access it at no cost, thereby empowering families to efficiently manage their benefits and make informed choices about their nutrition.
