Jefferson County Republican Party Chairman accuses Democrats of lying

April 2, 2025 – JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL – Jefferson County Republican Party Chairman Phillip Brown accused the Alabama Democratic Party of lying about the Republican agenda.

“The Alabama Democrat Party is once again lying to the public — using fear tactics to push their big-government agenda and line the pockets of liberal special interests,” Brown said in an email to supporters. “We want to set the record straight. Republicans aren’t cutting healthcare for seniors, working families, or children. We’re working to fix a broken system that’s riddled with waste, fraud, and mismanagement.”

The federal government is spending $1,673 billion per year on Medicaid and Medicare – and that doesn’t count what states, and the beneficiaries are spending. Spending on the two entitlement programs is by far the biggest item in the federal budget and the biggest driver in increasing the budget deficit. The U.S. government is spending over $7 trillion a year and the deficit is over $2 trillion a year.

“Medicaid was never meant to be a one-size-fits-all solution, and expanding it without accountability only puts more strain on Alabama taxpayers and rural hospitals,” said Chairman Brown.”

Expanding Medicaid without any way of paying for it has been a disaster for the taxpayers. Last year Medicaid paid out $626 billion. Half of Medicaid payments go to the managed care organizations that operate much of the program— mostly big insurance companies like Humana, United Healthcare, Aetna, and the Blue Cross Blue Shields. Nursing homes and home care agencies also get vast sums of the total.

Last year, Social Security paid out about $1.5 trillion in benefits. Medicare paid $912 billion. Those three big entitlement programs combined for a total of approximately $3 trillion. Alabama is one of the states that did not expand Medicaid – a decision that is saving Alabama taxpayers over $200 million a year.

Brown said the Democrats have no fiscally responsible plan.

“The Democrats’ plan? Pour more money into a system with no reforms, no guardrails, and no concern for the long-term financial impact on our state budget,” said Brown. “We believe in effective healthcare — not more bureaucracy. personal responsibility — not government dependency. And you should decide what’s best for your family’s health, not the federal government.”

Medicaid – without expansion – costs the state of Alabama over $one billion a year.

Phillip Brown was recently elected to lead the Jefferson County Republican Party.

Alabama Republican Party Chairman John Wahl praised Brown’s leadership and commitment to conservative values in a statement.

“Phillip Brown’s election is a historic moment for the Jefferson County Republican Party, and it is well deserved," said Chairman Wahl. "He is one of the hardest-working Republican leaders in our state, and I have no doubt he will bring fresh energy and determination to this role. I look forward to working with him as we continue to advance Republican principles in Jefferson County.”
