March 21, 2025 – MILWAKEE, WI – The Troy University men's basketball team will play play Kentucky in the NCAA tournament on Friday
The Troy University men's basketball team is in the NCAA Tournament. The number 14 seed Trojans play the University of Kentucky Wildcats on Friday at Fisery Forum in Milwaukee at 6:20 pm.
This is the first time in eight years that the Troy men's basketball team has earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament.
Kentucky, an SEC team, is the three seed.
Troy comes in 23 and 10 on the season,
They have won their last six games in a row),including the Sunbelt Conference Championship game.
Troy is making its third appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Kentucky is making their 62nd – the most of any team in the sport.
Troy won the Sun Belt's automatic by winning the conference championship in Pensacola, Fla., with a 94 to 81 victory over Arkansas State.
The Trojans were led by Tayton Conerway, the Sun Belt Player of the Year and the tournament's Most Outstanding Player, who scored 21 points in the win,
This will only be the second time that Troy has even played Kentucky in the history of the program. Kentucky won the first meeting.
Troy is 10th in the country in steals per game (9.4). 26th in blocks per game (4.7) , 11th in the country in offensive rebounds per game (13.9) and sixth in offensive rebounding percentage.
Scott Cross is the Troy head coach.
"I want to thank the good Lord for this victory," in the Sunbelt Championship game Coach Cross said. "He shined down on us. What a blessing it is. The last time I was in the NCAA Tournament was 2008. I don't take this for granted by any means. This is one of the hardest things to do, especially in the Sun Belt because there are 14 teams, and they are very close in terms of talent and ability."
This is the second time Cross has led a team to the NCAA Tournament. He took UT-Arlington to the tournament in 2008.
