Troy falls to Kentucky

March 21, 2025 – MILWAUKEE, WI - Troy University fell 57 to 76 to the Southeastern Conference's Kentucky Wildcats in the first round of the Midwest Regional of the NCAA tournament.

Troy finishes the season with an impressive 23 and 11 finish including a Sunbelt Conference Tournament championship. Kentucky improves to 23 and 11 and advances to the field of 32.

Kentucky jumped out to 35 to 27 lead after the first home; then won the second half 41 to 30 at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Troy Guard Myles Rigsby led the Trojans with 17 points and 7 rebounds. Forward Thomas Dowd contributed 11 rebounds. Guard Tayton Conerway had 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists.

Kentucky was led by Guard Otega Oweh who had 20 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists. Center Amari Williams had 5 points, 13 rebounds, and 4 assists.

Troy is coached by Scott Cross.

"Kentucky's a really good basketball team, and the size obviously affected us a lot," said Coach Cross. "Amari Williams plugging up everything in the paint was hard for our guys. I think we were able to get some good looks off the pick and roll, but you go right in and have got a seven-footer shot blocker sitting in the paint, and that's hard to deal with. When you kick it out and your 3s aren't falling, it makes it difficult to score baskets."

This was only the third time in the history of Trojans' basketball that the team has done to the NCAA tournament.

"I'm so thankful for our guys and what they've done this season," said Coach Cross. "It's been 17 years since I've been to the NCAA Tournament. I don't take that for granted at all."

Troy still has never won a NCAA tournament game.
