Auburn is the top team in the NCAA tournament

March 17, 2025 – INDIANAPOLIS, IN. – This has been a magical season for the Auburn Tigers Men's Basketball team. The Auburn men were awarded with a number one seed in NCAA basketball tournament. Auburn got the top spot in the South regions over Florida, Duke, and Houston.

Auburn ran away with the Southeastern Conference regular season – clinching the regular season with games left. Auburn let off the gas after clinching the regular season title – losing it's last two games of the season including a nailbiter with the University of Alabama in Auburn. Auburn won its quarterfinals game in the SEC tournament on Friday; but lost Saturday to number 8 Tennessee.

Some pundits had expected Auburn to get punished for losing three out of their last four games; but the tournament rewarded Auburn for being the best regular season team in the best conference. The SEC got 14 teams in the NCAA tournament – the most by any conference in the history of the 64-team tournament.

Auburn will play its first game on Thursday against the winner of the play-in game on Tuesday between St. Francis University and Alabama State University (ASU). Auburn has had the best regular season in the history of the school; but in basketball you are remembered not by your season but by what you do in the tournament and this team was upset by Yale in last year's NCAA tournament. Avoiding another early round exit is key in the minds of Auburn head Coach Bruce Peal and this senior heavy team, led by forward/center Johnny Broom, point guard Denver Jones, and Miles Kelly, looking forward.
