Auburn plays Creighton on Saturday

March 22, 2025 – LEXINGTON KY – The Auburn University men's basketball team faces much stiffer competition in it's second round game on Saturday against the nine seeded Creighton Bluejays.

Number one seeded Auburn defeated number 16 seeded Alabama State University on Thursday in a game, where the game was at many points much closer than a #1 versus #16 matchup should be as the Tigers overcame ASU 83 to 63.

Senior Guard Miles Kelly led the way with seven three-point shots totaling 23 points.

"My teammates did a great job of finding me," said Kelly. All I had to do was knock down the shot. It's cool to do something like that, especially in March. Bryce Brown was a great shooter for Auburn. It's special."

Seven threes in a NCAA tournament game ties the Auburn record set by Bryce Brown against Kansas in 2019. That Bruce Pearl team – the greatest in Auburn history – advanced all the way to the Final Four.

Freshman Guard Tahaad Pettiford had 16 points, five rebounds and five assists.

Senior Forward/Center Johni Broome had 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Forward Chaney Johnson added 13 points and seven rebounds.

Senior Point Guard Denver Jones had eight points, six assists and four rebounds

Despite the blow-out in the second half, ASU had a big run in the first half where the Tigers appeared sluggish and even unenergetic versus the Hornets.

"We won't beat Creighton playing the way we played tonight," Coach Bruce Pearl said following the game. "We can play better."

The win improves Auburn's record to 29 and 5. Creighton a nine seed improved Thursday to 25 and 10, after beating Louisville 89 to 75. Creighton shot 57.2 percent from the field. Auburn will have to do a better job defending the Bluejays than Louisville did.

"They're really good, they're really old, they're really smart, they're really big," said Pearl of Creighton. "They're not going to beat themselves."

The game will be Saturday night at 6:10PM CDT at Rupp Arena in Lexington, KY. The game will be shown on TBS/truTV.
