Damage assessments continue following Saturday's storms

March 16, 2025 – MONTGOMERY – people across the state are working on cleaning up the damage after severe weather struck the state on Saturday night. At least three Alabamians have died. State officials are continuing with damage assessments. On Sunday, Governor Kay Ivey (R) connected with local officials in Dallas and Talladega counties to offer condolences on behalf of the entire state for the lives lost.

"Emergency management officials have been working hard to assess the damage brought by this weekend's storms," said Governor Ivey in a statement. "We tragically learned of another victim in Dallas County, which means we've lost three of our fellow Alabamians. I offered condolences to local officials in both areas."

Secretary of State Wes Allen (R) also released a statement on the March 15th severe weather.

"This weekend, severe thunderstorms and tornadoes impacted at least 52 of Alabama's 67 counties," said Secretary Allen. "I offer my deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the three Alabamians that have lost their lives and a speedy recovery to the dozens more who have been injured. Alabama's first responders, law enforcement personnel, and lineman have been working around the clock to help the injured, maintain order, and restore power in our communities. My Office thanks them for their dedication to ensuring Alabama remains safe and recovers from this devastation. Alabamians are resilient, and I know we will come through this stronger than ever."

Alabama Emergency Management Agency said, "If you need assistance with damage cleanup, please call (844) 965-1386."

One person was killed in Winterboro in Talladega County and two were killed in Plantersville in Dallas County.

"Our heartfelt prayers go out to the loved ones of the 2 Dallas County residents who lost their lives in the severe storms in Plantersville," said Congresswoman Terri Sewell (D-Selma) on X.

U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Alabama) said on his X account, "Please join me in praying for all those impacted by yesterday's tornadoes and severe storms. My team and I are in touch with local leaders to support however we can."

U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Alabama) also released a statement to X.

"Wesley and I are praying for the Alabamians affected by yesterday's severe weather across our state," said Senator Britt. "Our hearts are with those grieving the loss of loved ones. We continue to be in contact with Alabama EMA, the Governor's Office, and local officials, and remain grateful for the brave first responders working tirelessly to keep people safe and help communities recover."
