Marth 16, 2025 – ALABAMA - Severe weather impacted Alabama on Saturday evening. Most of the state experienced periods of heavy rain. Some areas suffered damage from heavy winds and possible tornadoes. As of press time the death toll in the state had reached three. The Governor's office said that damage assessment from this weekend's storms in Alabama is ongoing.
"Yesterday's severe weather impacted most of Alabama. Unfortunately, we have learned of the loss of at least two of our fellow Alabamians - one life in Plantersville and one in Winterboro," said Governor Kay Ivey (R) in a statement. "We have reports of damage in 52 of our 67 counties. Our damage assessment continues. The sun has risen in Alabama, though. We pray for those lives we lost, as well as those who were injured. And we pray for our first responders, emergency management officials and linemen who are doing incredible work on the ground right now."
Winterboro in Talladega County suffered an apparent tornado touchdown. There is one dead there and damage to Winterboro school which had a bus tossed onto on of the school buildings.
Calera also had severe damage with a number of homes destroyed.
In Chilton County, homes were reported destroyed near Maplesville.
Homes were also lost in Dallas County. An 82 year old woman was killed when her home was destroyed.
Hale County has a number of trees down and power lines destroyed.
Pickens County had significant damage north of Gordo.
A tornado was spotted on the ground in Tuscaloosa County. There are down power lines and trees.
The Sipsey area of Walker County also has damage to homes and power lines.
In Troy the recreation building that was being used as a shelter for approximately 200 people has received severe damage and has been closed.
The death toll is presently at three. At least 34 died across the southeast with 6 having died in Mississippi. There are at least 10 dead in Missouri. There was also loss of life in Texas and Arkansas.
