March 5, 2025 - The 2018 film "I Can Only Imagine" about the inspiration behind MercyMe's chart topping song by the same name was such a success financially, after all it earned more than twelve times its budget, that The Kingdom Story Company is now filming the sequel to the movie for Lionsgate called "I Can Only Imagine 2". It is tentatively set for release in the spring of 2026.
While the film, "I Can Only Imagine" was directed by both of the Erwin brothers, who originally hail from Birmingham, Alabama, the sequel is being directed by Andrew Erwin and Brent McCorkle. With the first movie focusing on the lead singer for MercyMe, Bart Millard, and his troubled relationship with his father; the sequel will show how the cycle continues and can be reversed as Bart Millard struggles with reconciling his own relationship with his son. The filming for the sequel is going to take place in Nashville, Tennessee. With the storyline centering around the contemporary Christian music band, MercyMe, there are several concert scenes that need to be filled with background extras. And in order to give the motion picture a realistic feel for the performances of the group, not just a few background extras will be needed, but a lot of them. As such, "I Can Only Imagine 2" has issued a casting call for extras who are willing to participate in the crowd scenes to be filmed in Nashville, Tennessee.
"I Can Only Imagine 2", like its predecessor, is not offering compensation for its extras other than a free t-shirt. And the likelihood of actually being seen on film in a noticeable manner is slim. However, it is a chance to get an introduction into the world of film production.
