February 15, 2025 – U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Alabama) spoke with the Alabama Gazette about the situation in the Middle East during a press call with Alabama reporters and journalists.
"I think it is very, very important that we all understand that this is an absolute mess in the Middle East," said Senator Tuberville. "Joe Biden and his cronies they just made it worse every day by playing both sides. They allowed Iran to continue to pump gas and oil and sell it all over the world making them rich again and obviously they put their money out to all their groups in the Middle East - the Houthis, Hamas, Hezbollah all the people who want to fight against Israel. It is a mess."
President Trump is already making diplomatic efforts to improve the situation.
"Yesterday King Abdullah from Jordan was here visiting with President Trump," said Sen. Tuberville "Also probably in the very near future we will see President Cici who is the President of Egypt. Those two countries have to be involved. Israel and the United States can't do it by themselves."
Sen. Tuberville cautioned that it is going to take time to dramatically improve the situation in the Middle East.
"This is a mess that has a lot to do with what has been going on for many, many years," explained Tuberville. "The solution is not going to be short and sweet. It is going to take a long time to figure this out."
Tuberville expressed confidence in President Trump and his team.
"I trust President Trump and his envoy," stated Tuberville. "I saw today Mike Huckabee - who is hopefully the future ambassador to Israel. There are a lot of things out there. I am going to refer to President Trump and Secretary (of Defense Pete) Hegseth to figure out what we are going to do with Israel and that absolute mess in Gaza."
The Alabama Gazette asked if there would be a role to play for American troops being deployed as peacekeepers to guarantee security for both Israel and the Palestinians on the Gaza and Israel border.
"I am going to leave troops on the ground to President Trump and Secretary Hegseth," Tuberville said.
Israel and Hamas are currently in a ceasefire. The two sides have exchanged prisoners. Hamas continues to hold a number of hostages while the two sides negotiate. Similarly, there is a ceasefire in place between Israel and Hezbollah in southern Lebanon. The Islamist led government in Syria is consolidating power in that countries while the Russians have pulled back. The U.S. and its coalition are continuing to fight ISIS in Syrian and Somalia. The Houthi rebels in Yemen have continued to be a problem taking periodic rocket attacks against international shipping. Iran appears to be in the processing of reassessing the situation after devastating Israel air strikes on their air defenses and missile making facilities and the President Trump was inaugurated.
Senator Tuberville was elected to the Senate in 2020.
