Secretary of State Wes Allen Announces Run For Lt. Governor

February 18, 2025 - MONTGOMERY. AL - The Secretary of State of Alabama, Wes Allen, announced today that he is running for Lieutenant Governor of Alabama in the 2026 election cycle. As a Republican candidate for the position, he is joining Pastor Dean Odle in the field of candidates vying for the Republican bid in the May 26th, 2026 primary. In announcing his bid for Lieutenant Governor of Alabama, Secretary of State Wes Allen stated that "For a kid that grew up at the end of a dirt road to have the opportunity to serve in public life like what I've been able to do so far, as probate judge and in the State House and now as secretary of state, its just very, very humbling to be in the position that God has placed me in."

Secretary of State Wes Allen was elected to his current position with nearly two-thirds of the vote. His conservative stances when he served as an Alabama State Representative, prior to being elected Secretary of State, such as sponsoring legislation banning gender-transitioning surgeries for minors were at times controversial on the national level - but popular at the state level. His tenure as a probate judge in Pike County also provided him with an experienced perspective on issues pertinent to election integrity that he has championed both in the State House and in his current position of Secretary of State. In fact, it is his record of conservative leadership that Allen states he wants to take to the Lieutenant Governor's office.

The son of Gerald Allen, who is the state senator from the 21st district which covers Tuscaloosa and parts of Pickens and Lamar County, Wes Allen made history alongside his father when he was elected to the state house of representatives in 2018. As Wesley Harrison Allen and Gerald Harrison Allen became the first father and son to serve at the same time in the Alabama state legislature. In fact, Gerald Allen, was first elected to the state house in 1994.

The forty-nine years of age, Wes Allen, grew up in Cottondale, in Tuscaloosa County. He graduated from The University of Alabama where he was a walk-on split end on Gene Stallings' Alabama football team. Additionally, the current head football coach for Clemson University, Dabo Sweeney, was Wes Allen's position coach. Secretary of State Allen is married to Cae Allen, who grew up in Bibb County, Alabama. His wife, Cae, is a former captain of The University of Alabama Crimsonettes, the baton twirling majorettes for The University of Alabama. Wes Allen and his wife Cae and have two children and reside in Troy, Alabama.

Luisa Reyes is an attorney in Tuscaloosa with a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Judson, a master's degree in library science, and a law degree from Samford's Cumberland School of Law. She is also a piano instructor and vocalist.
