Congressman Aderholt Votes to Advance House Republican Budget Resolution

February 25, 2025 - WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. House of Representatives voted to advance the Republican budget resolution. Congressman Robert Aderholt (R-AL04) released a statement after voting in favor of the budget package, which he said was a critical first step in advancing President Trump's America First agenda.

"In November, more than 83% of voters in Alabama's Fourth District cast their ballots for President Trump, making it clear that they wanted a return to strong, conservative leadership," said Aderholt. "They voted for secure borders, energy independence, economic prosperity, and a strong national defense. Today's vote was the first procedural step toward delivering on those priorities."

"Unfortunately, Democrats will misrepresent this vote to spread fear and confusion" Aderholt continued. "The truth is that today's budget resolution does not make a single policy change. It simply sets spending, and revenue targets and instructs committees to draft legislation that will meet those targets through the reconciliation process. This is where the real work of shaping policy will happen."

"With Republicans in control of the House, Senate, and White House, we have a historic opportunity to undo the damage of the past four years and put America back on the right track," Aderholt continued. "I am proud to stand with my colleagues in support of this resolution, and I will continue to fight for the values and priorities of the people of Alabama's Fourth District."

Congressman Barry Moore agreed.

"The @HouseGOP budget resolution allows us to get to work implementing President Trump's America First agenda and address the wasteful spending that led to our nation's $36 trillion in debt. We need to get this resolution across the finish line."

The House passed the conservative budget proposal 217 to 215. Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Kentucky) voted with all of the House Democrats in opposition to the budget which was endorsed by President Donald J. Trump (R).

Passage was a huge win for Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) who, without Democratic cooperation, needs to hold together the often-fractious House Republican Caucus in order to pass any legislation.

"We got it done, we had the requisite number of votes to move this process along, and now passing the budget resolution in the House, it will go to the Senate," Speaker Johnson told reporters. "This is the first important step in opening up the reconciliation process. We have a lot of hard work ahead of us, but we are going to deliver the America First agenda. We're gonna deliver all of it, not just parts of it, and this was the first step in that process."

The Senate has already passed their own version of the budget. Eventually a conference committee will be assigned the difficult task of aligning those two different proposals into a final product that can pass both Houses and be signed into law by President Trump.

This is still the 2025 budget. Congress failed to pass a 12 month budget by the start of the fiscal year on October 1. Instead, they passed a continuing resolution to get them past the election and another continuing resolution to keep the government funded into the Trump presidency and the swearing in of new Congressional members. This budget resolution (if it is passed) will carry the government to the end of the 2025 fiscal year on September 30. Once this is done Congress will need to begin work with the Trump administration on preparing the 2026 fiscal year budget which has to be in place by October 1.
