Pam Bondi confirmed as Attorney Genera

February 5, 2025 - WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Senate voted to confirm former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi (R) as the U.S. Attorney General.

U.S. Senator John Fetterman (D-Pennsylvania) joined all the Republicans, including both Alabama Senators (Tommy Tuberville and Katie Britt) in voting to confirm Bondi 54 to 46.

Senator Katie Britt is a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee which had earlier voted in favor of Bondi's confirmation.

"I was honored to vote to confirm Attorney General Pam Bondi's nomination today," said Sen. Britt. "She has the credentials and proven track record to not only restore integrity in the Department of Justice, but to ensure the American people have faith and confidence in our justice system. "As Attorney General, Pam Bondi will ensure the department returns to its mission of blind justice and upholding the rule of law. I am confident she will take decisive action to combat the fentanyl and opioid crisis, prevent human trafficking, crack down on violent crime, and implement President Trump's Agenda to Make America Safe Again. Under her outstanding leadership, a safer, stronger future is ahead for Alabamians and families in every corner of our state and nation."

Senator Tommy Tuberville spoke on the Senate floor about the need to confirm Bondi as attorney general.

"We need to focus on accountability. We need to hold people accountable for the damage that has been done to our country," said Sen. Tuberville. "We need to support the pardon of January 6 protestors who were wrongly prosecuted and horribly treated by our justice system. We need to step up and fight for pro-life, pro-life protestors who were persecuted by this administration under the FACE Act. We need to open investigations into the DOJ Civil Rights and National Security Divisions. And that starts with confirming Kash Patel and Pam Bondi to the posts where President Trump needs them and needs them in a hurry."

Senator Britt's first hearing as a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee was the confirmation hearing to consider Pam Bondi's nomination. Britt praised Bondi's decades of experience as a tough-on-crime prosecutor and former Florida Attorney General.

Senator Britt stated, "The United States of America could only be so fortunate if you were confirmed, and to have someone of your caliber, of your intellect, and of your experience running a department that unfortunately has been run into the ground "

"Pam Bondi is exactly who America needs leading the Department of Justice," Britt said after voting to advance Bondi's nomination. "She is committed to the rule of law and to returning blind justice to a department that has too often weaponized its power in recent years."

Bondi takes over a Justice Department embroiled in controversy.

Bondi served two terms as the attorney general in Florida. She brings tremendous prosecutorial experience to the job. She has been lauded for her work battling the opioid epidemic.

She is also a former attorney for President Donald J Trump (R). She worked on his 2020 election challenge and has been highly critical of the criminal investigations into him, even calling for "prosecutors to be prosecuted."

"If confirmed, I will work to restore confidence and integrity to the Department of Justice - and each of its components," said Bondi in her confirmation hearing. "Under my watch, the partisan weaponization of the Department of Justice will end."

Bondi angered Senate Democrats by refusing to acknowledge that Trump lost the 2020 election.

"President Biden is the president of the United States," Bondi told Senators when pressed on the issue. "He was duly sworn in, and he is the president of the United States. There was a peaceful transition of power. President Trump left office and was overwhelmingly elected in 2024."

The Senate still has to move on the nomination of Kash Patel to lead the FBI.
