Auburn men's basketball team bests LSU

January 29, 2025 - BATON ROUGE, LA. - Senior center/forward Johni Broome is back and Auburn is playing as good a brand of basketball as it has at any point in this season. Auburn defeated LSU 87 to 74 on Wednesday night.

Auburn was led by Broome who scored 26 points - 20 of them in the second half – in Auburn's victory. Broome also 13 rebounds and 3 shot blocks.

The win improves Auburn to 19 and 1 overall and 7 and 0 in the Southeastern Conference – easily the USA's best basketball conference this season.

Senior Guard Kelly Miles scored 13 points and had 3 rebounds for Auburn. Senior Guard/forward Chad-Baker Mazara contributed 11 points, 7 assists, and 2 rebounds to the Auburn win. Freshman Guard Tahaad Petiford had 10 points and 3 rebounds for the Tigers.

Cam Carter led LSU with 24 points.

Auburn is coached by Bruce Pearl – the winningest Coach in Auburn basketball history.

"We went to him, and he finished everything," Pearl said. "Over time our physicality wore them down. Johni was dominant again, particularly in the second half. When everybody was fatigued, Johni's physicality took over."

Auburn plays number 23 Ole Miss on Saturday as they strive for win number 20.
