Auburn defeats Tennessee 53 to 51

January 25, 2025 – AUBURN, AL - The number one team in the country Auburn Tigers defeated number six Tennessee 53 to 51 in a very ugly physical game where neither team were able to consistently hit their three-point shots. Defense was the hallmark of the game for both teams and Auburn came out on top in the very physical gritty style of play.

The win improves Auburn to 18 and 1 on the season and the Tigers remain undefeated in Southeastern Conference play at 6 and 0. Auburn's only loss thus far this season was at Cameron Indoor Arena to the Duke Blue Devils.

The biggest thrill of the night for Tigers fans was not the win; but seeing star Senior Center/Forward Johni Broome come back for the first time after he went out a couple of weeks ago with an ankle injury. The 6-foot 10 inch highly versatile Broome is at the heart of what Auburn is trying to do both offensively and defensively. One of the best big men in the college game today - he did not disappoint – leading all scorers with 16 points along with 13 rebounds and 4 blocked shots.

Broome contributed heavily to the Auburn effort, but it was Miles Kelly who made the three-point shot with 30 seconds left to give No. 1 Auburn the lead and the top-ranked Tigers ended the game on a 6-0 run to defeat No. 6 Tennessee 53-51 Saturday at Neville Arena.

Auburn is coached by Bruce Pearl – the winningest coach in the history of the program.

This is only the third time in history that Auburn has started SEC play 6 and 0.

AP voters again made Auburn the unanimous choice to be the #1 team in the country this week.

Auburn plays LSU on Wednesday at LSU.
