The people's voice of reason
Rear Admiral Kent Davis USN Retired, is a hero to approximately 400,000 veterans and their families within AL. He served successfully as Commissioner of the AL Department of Veterans Affairs for almost six years from February 2019 until October when AL Governor fired him after Davis filed an ethics complaint regarding a dispute over handling of federal grants offered through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) of 2021.
This appears to be unjustified because the AL State Board of Veterans Affairs had just voted unanimously to retain him as Commissioner. He had successfully managed the agency's operations, built a new state veterans home in Enterprise, opened 12 new veteran service offices, modernized the Department's IT assets, coordinated the mission's execution, and successfully oversaw the work of approximately 1,200 state and contractor employees in 70 facilities throughout AL.
Rear Admiral Davis always personally served veterans well including honoring nonagenarian and centenarian veterans at celebrations of their 99th and 100th birthdays. He attended drive-by events in Montgomery and in Millbrook at these celebrations during the Covid-19 pandemic and issued special birthday citations to each veteran.
