"I Can Only Imagine" Now Streaming

January 3, 2025 - For those who have tired of wading through the endless rows of mindless subpar "B" type movies that flood the streaming opportunities on Netflix, "I Can Only Imagine" is now streaming on Great American Pure Flix. Directed by the Erwin brothers, who are originally from Birmingham, Alabama, "I Can Only Imagine" is a biopic about the relationship between the lead singer of the American contemporary Christian music band, MercyMe, and his abusive father.

Although rated PG, "I Can Only Imagine", is an inspiring melodrama that despite its PG rating tackles some weighty themes concerning family relationships. As the lead singer of MercyMe's troubled and abusive father is portrayed decidedly convincingly by Dennis Quaid. Who, fittingly for the part, was born and raised in Texas since the movie features the ten-year-old lead singer of MercyMe, Bart Millard, while he was growing up in Texas with his mother, who eventually leaves the abusive relationship that is Millard's troubled dad.

While the Erwin brothers tend to make biographical films about people who are more well known in certain popular contemporary Christian niche markets and not by the world's population as a whole, in "I Can Only Imagine", the compelling storyline behind the inspiration for the ballad of the same name manages to carry the hour and fifty minutes long film even for those who are not familiar with the band, MercyMe. And one gains a lot of respect for the contemporary Christian singer, Amy Grant, as she provides Bart Millard with a breakthrough opportunity to present the song that forms the title of the film.

Considered by many to be the best-selling Christian single of all time, the song, "I Can Only Imagine" focuses on the singer pondering what he or she will feel like when they first meet The Good Lord upon entering Heaven. As the lyrics of the chorus to the song state: "Surrounded by Your glory, what will my heart feel? Will I dance for You, Jesus? Or in awe of You, be still? . . ." It is one of the most played songs in Christian radio history. And, "I Can Only Imagine", the song, has managed to even have some crossover appeal into the country and pop music radio market, as well.

The movie, "I Can Only Imagine", was originally released in movie theaters in 2018. And is considered to have been a box office success, since it grossed $86 million worldwide and the cost of filming the movie was a comparatively paltry $7 million. Right now Great American Pure Flix is offering a free trial for those who are new to their streaming service.
