Tuberville supports Kash Patel as Director of the FBI

December 11, 2024 – WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Alabama) spoke with Alabama reporters and journalists about his recent meeting with Kash Patel, President Donald J. Trump's choice to be the next director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

"I met with Kash Patel, President Trump's nominee to be the FBI director," said Sen. Tuberville.

Sen. Tuberville has been a critic of the FBI's conduct under outgoing Director Christopher Wray: the raid on President Trump's home at Mar-O-Lago, Florida, FBI surveillance and targeting of parents who speak out against woke school policies, traditional Catholics, and other groups targeted by the outgoing Biden administration.

"During our meeting we talked about the need to clean house at the FBI and restore Americans' trust in the Department," said Tuberville.

Sen. Tuberville has been an outspoken advocate for moving more of the FBI's operation to Huntsville, including possibly even FBI headquarters.

"I also spoke with him in particular about the expansion of the FBI in Huntsville and shared with him that Huntsville is the leader of cyber intelligence and training," said Tuberville.

Reporters were concerned that talks of restructuring the FBI will mean fewer FBI jobs in Huntsville. Tuberville dismissed that as a likely outcome.

"They won't be impacted - now there might be some more people coming from Washington D.C. to the Huntsville area," said Tuberville. "We are looking for a permanent place for all of the FBI. There is no better location than Huntsville. The Biden administration has chosen Maryland for the location of the FBI but that is not all set in stone."

The FBI is presently building new facilities at Huntsville's Red Stone Arsenal.

"We are in great shape behind the walls in Redstone Arsenal with the FBI," said Tuberville. "We are still continuing to build. There is still a lot of work to do there. We have got more people moving in. Wouldn't it be great to have the entire FBI agency in Huntsville, Alabama. It would be perfect."

Tuberville said that after meeting with Patel he is confident that he is the best choice to lead the agency going forward.

"I am convinced now more than ever that Kash is the right man to lead the FBI," said Sen. Tuberville. "I look forward to his confirmation."

Patel is a former Department of Justice attorney who has been very publicly critical of Wray's governance of the federal government's top law enforcement agency.

Wray, who was originally appointed by President Trump in his first term, jas two more years left in his current term; but has announced his intention to resign rather than to become the third FBI director fired by a President. His predecessor, James Comey, was fired by Trump. President Barack H. Obama was the first President to fire an FBI director.
