Tuberville meets with Trump's nominee for Education Secretary - Linda McMahon

December 14,2024 – WASHINGTON, D.C. - On Tuesday, U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Alabama) spoke with Linda McMahon – President-elect Donald J. Trump's (R) pick to lead the U.S. Department of Education.

"I enjoyed meeting with Linda McMahon this afternoon," said Sen. Tuberville in a statement. "She is a strong advocate for school choice, and the right person to clean out the bureaucratic nightmare at the Department of Education."

On Wednesday, Sen. Tuberville spoke about his meeting with McMahon with the Alabama press corps.

"This week I met with Linda McMahan – President Trump's nominee to lead the Department of Education," Sen. Tuberville told the reporters. "During our meeting we talked about Alabama's educational priorities including school choice and workforce development programs. Linda agrees 100% that parents should be in full charge of making education decisions for their children and not the federal government. She has a proven record of being a fearless school choice advocate. Through her leadership at the America First Policy Institute, we went from zero to twelve states with universal school choice - amazing. I am confident that Linda will continue her work to send education authority back to the states so that our students can learn in the environment that works best for them."

The state of Alabama has begun a program of moving high school students on to either a college reader or vocational career or military path rather than teaching all the students a college preparatory curriculum knowing that most high school students do not go to college and nearly half of those who do will never finish with a degree.

"Linda and I also agree that four-year degrees aren't for everyone," said Tuberville. "Alabama is on the front lines of workforce development because we want students to have the opportunity to make a good living while filling critical workforce needs. As Secretary of Education Linda plans to boost technical training programs so that every student has a pathway to a good paying job."

Sen. Tuberville has been outspoken about his support for girls sports and his opposition to boys – who claim they want to be women – competing against girls in girls sports.

"We also discussed the importance of taking biological males out of girls and women's sports," recounted Tuberville. "The current education secretary has betrayed our female students and athletes by undoing fifty years of successful Title IX regulations. Linda agrees that no biological males should be in any spaces designated for females. She also agrees that our young women shouldn't have to compete for second and third place."

Some in the education community have voiced their concerns about McMahon's candidacy; but Tuberville expressed confidence that McMahon would be confirmed by the Republican controlled Senate.

"I am confident that she will be a great education secretary and look forward to her swift confirmation," stated Sen. Tuberville.
