Tuberville Meets with Trump's choice for VA - former Congressman Doug Collins

December 3, 2024 – WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) met with former Congressman Doug Collins, President Trump's nominee for Secretary of Veterans Affairs (VA). Improving the performance of the Veterans Administration at delivering services to veterans has been a priority for Sen. Tuberville in the four years that he has served om the Semate.

During the meeting, they talked about streamlining and cutting regulations in the VA to ensure every veteran gets the best care possible.

"Congressman Doug Collins is a proven leader and veteran who has constantly advocated for our service members throughout his career," said Sen. Tuberville. "We met to discuss my priorities for the VA, including access to timely and quality care, reducing veteran

Former Rep. Doug Collins, age 58, is a Georgia Republican. He last ran for office in 2020 when he was pursuing a U.S. Senate seat.

Collins is a veteran who served as both a Navy and Air Force chaplain during his military service.

Trump said that Collins would be a "great advocate for active-duty service members, veterans and military families to ensure they have the support they need."

"We must take care of our brave men and women in uniform," Trump said. "Thank you, Doug, for your willingness to serve our country in this important role."

Collins is a colonel in the Air Force Reserve.

Collins said on his X social media account that it was an honor to accept the nomination from President Trump.

"We'll fight tirelessly to streamline and cut regulations in the VA, root out corruption, and ensure every veteran receives the benefits they've earned," Collins wrote. "Together, we'll make the VA work for those who fought for us. Time to deliver for our veterans and give them the world-class care they deserve."

Collins served eight years in Congress from 2013 to 2021.

Tommy Tuberville has represented Alabama in the United States Senate since his election in 2020. Tuberville is a member of the Senate Armed Services, Agriculture, Veterans' Affairs, and HELP Committees.
