St. Clair County man appointed to assist President Trump on international economic relations

January 17, 2025 – WASHINGTON, D.C. – President Donald J. Trump (R) announced the appointment of St. Clair County native Emory to serve in the administration as the Special Assistant to the President for International Economics. Cox has spent the last four years as a policy advisor to U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Alabama).

Cox told the Alabama Gazette, "I am honored to serve, and I will work hard to make Alabama proud."

Senator Tuberville congratulated Cox on the appointment.

"I am proud to announce that Emory Cox, who has been my Senior Economic Advisor for the past four years, has been hired by President Trump to serve as Special Assistant to the President for International Economic Relations," Tuberville said in a statement. "Originally from Pell City, Emory has managed my financial services, tax, budget, appropriations, and international economics portfolios. Our nation will benefit from this Alabama patriot and I'm grateful for his service. While I am sad to see him go, I know he will be a great asset to Dr. Kevin Hassett, Scott Bessent, and President Trump's entire team as they work to get the American economy booming again."

Cox has represented St. Clair County on the Alabama Republican Party Executive Committee. Fellow executive committee member former state Representative Perry O. Hooper Jr. (R-Montgomery) spoke with Cox at President Trump's inauguration festivities.

"Emory Cox's appointment as special assistant for international economic relations in the White House is a massive win for those who believe in putting America first," said Rep. Hooper. "Cox, a Pell City native, came straight from the office of Senator Tommy Tuberville. Cox is a rock-solid conservative fighter. Emory brings the kind of no-nonsense, pro-American approach that's been missing in the D.C. swamp for too long. Cox's transition into this senior role is a testament to his expertise, his commitment to conservative values, and his readiness to take on the establishment to ensure that international economic policies work for the American people-not against them. The career bureaucrats must get out of his way and let him do the job he was brought in to do!"

Hooper is a political columnist whose columns appear in the Alabama Gazette and other publications.

Emory is a member of the St. Clair Young Republicans which are chaired by Logan Glass of Chandler Mountain.

"Emory truly represents the very best of St. Clair County!" said Chairman Glas. "We know that he will continue to make our people proud each and every day in Washington, D.C., as a member of the Trump Administration."

Emore Cox has a bachelor's degree in history from Washington and Lee University – where he graduated summa cum laude in 2018. Cox is a 2014 graduate of the Altamont School in Birmingham.

Prior to his service with Tuberville, Cox was a Financial Policy Adviser for the National Economic Council from June 2018 to Jan. 2021. He worked in the first Trump administration as an Associate Director in the White House from May 2017 to Aug. 2017. He served internships with Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Alabama) in 2016, the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee in 2016, and with Congressman Mike Rogers (R-AL03) in 2013.

He is the son of Annette Cox who owns Metro Bank in St. Clair County.
