Connie Hudson announces candidacy for Mayor of Mobile

January 8, 2024 – MOBILE, AL – Connie Hudson announced that she is running to be the mayor of Mobile. Hudson released a statement to introduce herself and explain why she believes that she is the best choice to succeed Mayor Sandy Stimpson who is not seeking reelection.

"Today, after months of thought and prayerful consideration and a tremendous outpouring of support from the community, I am very pleased to formally announce my candidacy for Mayor of Mobile in the upcoming August 26 municipal elections," Hudson said in a statement to reporters. "It would be my honor and privilege to serve as your Mayor and to continue the momentum and the progress that Mobile has experienced in recent years."

"With the transformational leadership of Mayor Stimpson spearheading landmark infrastructure projects and economic growth within the city, Mobile is on the cusp of a new era and will require strong and experienced leadership."

"I believe that my qualifications and experience as a Mobile County Commissioner with completing major capital projects would provide the direction and the vision that is necessary," Hudson continued. As your Mayor, I'll pledge to prioritize public safety improvements and quality of life initiatives that include new jobs through economic development, business and neighborhood revitalization, strengthened public school partnerships, a renewed focus on beautification, a cleaner, litter-free environment, support for parks/recreation and sports and entertainment venues, and creating a family-friendly environment for our citizens and attracting new families to Mobile."

Connie and her husband Dennis have raised their three children, and now some grandchildren in the City of Mobile. Hudson began volunteering as a public-school mom along with other young moms & dads to lead a group demanding change in Mobile County Public schools. She was elected to the Mobile City Council in 2001. She served nine years as the District 6 representative on the Mobile City Council. She currently is in her fourteenth year as the Mobile County Commissioner for District 2.

Hudson said that during her time in office, she has been a leader in collaborating on major economic development initiatives such as the Mobile area's site selection for the ThyssenKrupp Steel Plant (now AM/NS Calvert), Austal USA, the Airbus U.S. Final Assembly Line at Brookley Aeroplex, -the Airbus A220 Expansion, the Walmart Distribution and Amazon Sortation Centers, and the South Alabama Logistics Park. Hudson said that she has focused on capital projects directly improving citizens' quality of life.

She led the initiative to build the 20,000 sq. ft. senior recreation center in Mobile and has also led efforts to improve Medal of Honor Park, establish the Semmes Senior Center, and the Center's later expansion in June of 2021. Hudson said that she was also instrumental in the opening of the Mobile County Recycling Drop-Off Center, which was completed in November 2014, numerous parks and recreational improvements, including the Tanner Williams Community Park and the construction of a 10 field soccer complex as well as the newly announced indoor aquatic center near I-10 and I-65, as well as the purchase and renovation of the Escatawpa Hollow Park and Campground. During her term, Hudson says that she has directed over $200 million in Pay-As-You-Go Program funding benefiting District 2, a majority of which comprises the City of Mobile.

Hudson has a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences from Troy University and is a graduate from the Academy of Real Estate with licensure by the Alabama Real Estate Commission. She previously worked at Mobile Infirmary Medical Center where she served as a Staff Technologist, Hematology Specialist and Pathology Instructor for the Mobile Infirmary School of Radiation Therapy Technology.

Her husband Dennis worked 30 years with BASF as a Senior Staff Engineer before retiring. They have three children and two grandchildren. The Hudson's are members of Christ United Church.

The election for Mayor will be held on August 26, 2025.
