January 28, 2025 – WASHINGTON D.C. – The U.S. Senate voted to confirm Sean Duffy to be the U.S. Secretary of Transportation. Duffy's confirmation is the seventh member of the Trump cabinet to be confirmed by the Senate.
Both U.S. Senators Katie Britt (R-Alabama) and Tommy Tuberville (R-Alabama) voted in favor of Duffy.
Senator released a following statement after voting to confirm former-U.S. Representative Sean Duffy to be President Trump's Secretary of Transportation. Duffy's nomination was confirmed by a very bipartisan vote of 77 to 22.
"President Trump is committed to ensuring America's economy gets back on track, which necessitates updating aging, crumbling infrastructure for safer, more efficient travel," said Sen. Britt in a statement. "Sean Duffy is ready to implement that agenda as Secretary of Transportation. Sean championed strategic infrastructure during his five terms in the U.S. House of Representatives, and he has a track-record of success in delivering for the American people with commonsense solutions."
"I was proud to support Sean Duffy as our next Secretary of Transportation because I firmly believe he will ensure Alabama and America's infrastructure-air, land, and sea-is modernized to support America's families, farmers, small businesses, and industry," Britt continued. "He will be a tremendous partner working with Congress to fix America's broken permitting system and shifting away from the Biden-Harris Administration's radical Green New Deal policies that derail so many projects."
Sen. Tuberville said on his X account, "Congratulations to my good friend @SeanDuffyWI on being confirmed to lead @USDOT. I know he will do an excellent job modernizing our infrastructure across the nation."
Duffy will be tasked by President Trump with working on plans to improve traffic safety and cut regulations on construction projects.
Trump said the former Wisconsin Republican congressman would use his experience and relationships from eight years in Congress to rebuild the country's infrastructure and improve travel safety.
Duffy has promised to prioritize road safety to reduce fatalities on American roadways. More than 40,000 Americans are killed in traffic accidents every year.
Duffy is the former co-host of "The Bottom Line" on Fox Business Channel.
The Senate has confirmed Marco Rubio to be Secretary of State, John Ratcliffe to be CIA Director, Pete Hegseth to be Defense Secretary, Kristi Noem to be Homeland Security Secretary, and Scott Bessent to be Treasury Secretary. The Senate is expected to vote soon on Doug Collins to lead the Department of Veterans Affairs, Chris Wright to be the secretary of the Department of Energy, Doug Burgum to run the Interior Department and Lee Zeldin to be the administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency.
Duffy is a former cast member of MTV reality shows. He is an attorney and the former district attorney of Ashland County, Wisconsin.
Duffy and his wife have nine children.
