Alabama leaders express condolences to victims of New Orleans New Year's Day terrorist attack

January 1, 2025 – numerous Alabama elected officials expressed their condolences to the families of the persons slain in the New Orleans terrorist attack that killed 15 people in the early morning hours on Wednesday. Another 30 people were injured/wounded when a truck plowed into pedestrians celebrating the New Year on Bourbon Street. Some of them remain in serious condition in the hospital.

U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Alabama) said on his X social media account, "Last night's attack in New Orleans was pure evil. Please join me in praying for the victims and their families."

Sen. Tuberville expressed optimism that President-elect Donald J. Trump (R) will bring a renewed focus on counter terrorism to federal law enforcement agencies when he returns to office on January 20.

"Under Joe Biden, our national security has been dismantled, and American citizens have been put in danger," said Tuberville. "On January 20th, President Trump will restore law and order. The Senate should confirm EVERY SINGLE ONE of his Cabinet nominees ASAP."

U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Alabama) released a statement praying for the victims of the senseless attack.

"The terrorist attack in New Orleans was an act of unbridled evil," said Sen. Britt. "We continue to pray for the victims' loved ones and the survivors, as well as the brave law enforcement officers who rushed toward danger in selfless service to their fellow Americans. The American people deserve transparency and accountability as the pursuit of justice proceeds. As Ranking Member of the Senate Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, I have requested a formal briefing from DHS and FBI and that a briefing be made available to all Senators. With the 119th Congress beginning Friday, we must work nonstop to get President Trump's national security team in place without delay."

Congresswoman Terri Sewell (D-Selma) said on X, "My heart goes out to the entire New Orleans community after last night's attack. There is no place for such horrific violence in our nation. My prayers are with the victims, their families, and all who were injured."

Congressman Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) said on X, "The terrorist attack in New Orleans last night was a horrifying act of evil. The American people deserve answers about what led to this attack. My prayers are with law enforcement, the victims, and their families during this difficult time."

A second truck exploded in front of the Trump Hotel in Los Vegas, Nevada on Wednesday afternoon killing the driver and injuring six persons. It appears to also have been an intentional detonation. We don't know yet if it is linked to the New Orleans attack; but both electric trucks were rented using the same app.

Congressman Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville) said on X, "While terrorism has not been in the news as much in recent years, these incidents remind us that there are individuals within our own country who seek to inflict death and destruction on innocent lives."

Alabama Lieutenant Governor Will Ainsworth (R) said on X, "Join me in lifting up the victims and families of the New Orleans terrorist attack. God bless the responding officers. This was an act of pure evil rooted in ungodly beliefs. America will soon operate from a place of strength and respect, and our enemies will fear us once again."

Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall (R) said on X, "Standing in solidarity with my friends @LAGovJeffLandry and @AGLizMurrill as they address the tragedy in New Orleans. We are all praying for the victims of this terrorist attack and for the law enforcement community in Louisiana."

The terrorist was a U.S. Army veteran from Texas - Shamsud-Din Jabbar, age 42. Jabbar filmed himself explaining why he conducted the attack on videos made while he was driving from Houston to New Orleans ahead of the attack.

Jabbar drove around a police car that was serving as a barrier by driving on the side walk. He drove the Ford Lightning pickup truck for three blocks striking people while he fired a gun into the crowd. When the truck finally crashed he exited the vehicle and began firing at police until he was finally gunned down.

Two police officers were injured in the attack, one by gunfire and one who was pinned by the vehicle.

There were explosive devices found at the scene.
