The people's voice of reason
The Alabama Gazette Panel was shocked to see Oklahoma's overwhelming victory over the University of Alabama. Alabama was tasked with beating LSU, Oklahoma, and then Auburn and then they would be in the twelve team playoff. They got the first part of that accomplished; but failed miserably at beating 5 and 5 Oklahoma. Now they are outside the field of twelve looking in. They need to somehow beat Auburn in the Iron Bowl and hope for there to be chaos ahead of them as they need help to make the field of twelve even if they do beat the Tigers. A loss to Auburn would mean an 8 and 4 finish for the Tide and a trip to a consolation bowl game somewhere.
In the other SEC games of the week.
Ole Miss at Florida – Florida handled Ole Miss 21 to 17 knocking the Rebels out of the field of twelve – unless there is carnage ahead of them and they beat Mississippi State.
Massachusetts at Georgia – Georgia took care of business 59 to 21.
Texas at El Paso at Tennessee – Tennessee won this must win game to keep their playoff dreams alive 56 to 0. They are in the field of twelve if they beat Vanderbilt; but are probably out if they lose.
Kentucky at Texas – Texas won 31 to 14 keeping their playoff hopes on track.
LA Tech at Arkansas – Arkansas won 35 to 14 so the Razorbacks will be going bowling.
Wofford at South Carolina – South Carolina won 56 to 12, so now they and Alabama are both hoping to be the last team in in the playoff field.
Missouri at Mississippi State – Missouri won 39 to 20.
Texas A&M at Auburn – Auburn defeated Texas A&M 43 to 41 in four overtimes. At 5 and 6 Auburn just has to beat Alabama to go to a bowl. The loss means that Texas A&M (8-3) now has to beat Texas in order to go to the SEC Champiionship game where they likely also will have to beat Georgia to go to the playoffs.
Alabama at Oklahoma – Oklahoma defeated Alabama 24 to 3 clinching their sixth win of the year and a bowl berth. Alabama falls to 8 and 3. They need to beat Auburn in the Iron Bowl and they need Texas to beat Texas A&M. They may also need some additional help depending on how Saturday's games go.
LSU hosted Vanderbilt – LSU won 24 to 17. This game was erroneously left off of last week's list so the panel did not predict it.
