The people's voice of reason
December 7, 2024 – ATLANTA, GA – the Southeastern Conference championship will be decided on the field today when the two beast SEC teams face off in Atlanta in the Southeastern Conference Championship Game.
The University of Alabama is not a participant this year. The University of Georgia and the University of Texas will play for the SEC championship. This is a disappointment for Tide fans; but it appears after the Playoff Committee released their ranking showing Alabama ahead of Miami that Alabama will be given the 12th and final spot in the playoffs. At this point it appears that Texas (11-1), Georgia (10-2), Tennessee (10-2), and Alabama will be in the field of 12 along with Oregon, Penn State, Boisie State, Indiana, Ohio State, Notre Dame, the eventual ACC Champion (Cliemson or SMU), and the eventual Big 12 champion (Arizona State or Iowa State). The final rankings will be announced on Sunday after the conference championship games.
The Alabama Gazette football panel has enjoyed the unpredictable tumult that has been the 2024 SEC season where no team has looked dominant throughout the year; but one of them will be getting a championship trophy.
Georgia lost to Alabama and Ole Miss; but beat Texas and Tennessee. Texas beat everyone on their schedule; but was manhandled by Georgia in Austin 30 to 15.
Texas Quarterback Quin Ewers started that game; but was replaced by Arch Manning. Ewers got the job back; but was injured late in the Kentucky game. Manning started the finale last week against Texas A&M. It is not known who will get the start for Texas.
Georgia quarterback Carson Beck has had an up and down season where he has looked like the best players in the conference at times and has thrown the ball to the other team way too much in some outings. His first half performance against Alabama was dreadful.
The Alabama Gazette panel includes Brandon Moseley, Luisa Reyes, Perry O. Hooper Jr., Christopher Peeks, Harry Still III, and Sam Adams.
Brandon is picking Georgia; but wishes we had more information about Ewers; status.
Harry is also picking Georgia.
Perry said, "It's hard to beat a great team twice. Even though Georgia will have the home field advantage by playing the game in Atlanta, I believe Texas will win the game."
Luisa said, "Dang this is tough. I root for Georgia, but I'm thinking Texas might win it."
Sam is also picking Texas.
The SEC Championship Game is at: 3:00 p.m. CST in Atlanta, Georgia at Mercedes-Benz Stadium and will be televised on ABC.
