The people's voice of reason
While "Moana 2" is smashing all kinds of box office records for the Thanksgiving Day weekend, "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" is doing surprisingly well at the box office. With the Christmas themed movie remaining in the top five nearly a month after its original release in the movie theater. And for those who prefer to watch their movies from home, "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" is set to be released via streaming and video on demand platforms next week on December 10th, 2024.
Directed by Dallas Jenkins of "The Chosen" series fame, "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" is based on a novel written by the Ohio native, Barbara Robinson. The film is being heavily promoted by The Kingdom Story Company, which is a film and television studio founded by the Erwin brothers along with Kevin Downes and Tony Young. The Erwin brothers are formerly from Birmingham, Alabama and are the children of former Alabama state senator, Hank Erwin. Their goal with The Kingdom Story Company is to produce two faith-based films per year. And in "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" the common theme of redemption present in their films is given a Christmas Classic treatment. With critics praising it for being a good family based movie.
The plot of "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" centers around the 75th anniversary of the town's Christmas pageant. The matriarch who has handled the production for several years is bedridden with two broken legs, leading to a young mother volunteering to organize this year's pageant. Only to find out that she didn't quite realize what she was getting into. As the Herdmans, the local bullies who are known for stealing peoples' lunch at school and then punching them for not having any candy, end up bullying their way into being in the Christmas pageant. At first, primarily for the free snacks involved.
For those who wish to see it in the movie theater first, "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" is still showing in movie theaters across the country, and it is rated PG. The running time for it is an hour and thirty-nine minutes.
