The people's voice of reason
November 22, 2024–You know it’s going to be a bad day when you wake up, turn on the Keurig, and while the first cup of the day (Death Wish dark roast) is brewing you open up the iPad to see…
Russia launches ICBM strike against Ukraine.
On the bright side, it was only loaded with conventional warheads (or maybe even dummy rounds), so it just made a mess, maybe started a few small fires. It was only an intermediate range ballistic missile (IRBM), not an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM). And, Russia did notify us right before the launch through the “nuclear risk reduction channels” so that our detection systems didn’t flag it as a nuclear launch. Because, you know, BALLISTIC MISSILE!!!
Now for the downers: it’s a new class of Russia IRBM that travels at Mach 10, making it impossible to intercept (allegedly—the video looks like there wasn’t even an attempt to stop it). It can almost certainly be equipped with multiple nuclear warheads (it’s a MIRV—Multiple Independent Reentry Vehicles), and has plenty of range to hit targets all over Ukraine and Europe—including a missile defense base in Poland that “has long been added to the list of priority targets for potential destruction,” according to the Russian Defense Ministry.
That the MoD spokeswoman said that right after the attack might have some special meaning, don’t you think? This probably isn’t the year to winter in Warsaw. Or Kiev, come to think about it.
The Russian attack came right after Ukraine struck a command post in the Kursk region with 12 Storm Shadow missiles, causing “some casualties” and (maybe) wounding a North Korean general.
Keep in mind that the Storm Shadow is the UK version of a jointly-developed British/French low-flying cruise missile, and relies on American satellite targeting data and communications to be effective.
In a statement following the attack (linked below), Russian President Putin described the incident as a “test” “in combat conditions” that was ”successful, the launch goals achieved.”
Putin went on to say,
“Let me remind you that Russia has unilaterally committed itself not to deploy medium- and shorter-range missiles until American weapons of this kind appear in any region of the world.
“I repeat: tests in combat conditions of the "Oreshnik" missile system are carried out by us in response to the aggressive actions of NATO countries against Russia. The issue of further deployment of medium- and shorter-range missiles will be decided by us depending on the actions of the United States and its satellites.
“The targets to be hit during further tests of our latest missile systems will be determined by us based on the security threats of the Russian Federation. We consider ourselves entitled to use our weapons against the military facilities of those countries that allow the use of their weapons against our facilities, and in case of escalation of aggressive actions, we will answer just as decisively and mirror. I recommend that the ruling elites of those countries that plan to use their military contingents against Russia to seriously think about this.”
Clearly, Putin and Russia are not happy with “Joe Biden’s” decision to allow US missiles (and American targeting and control information) to be used to strike targets within Russia itself.
It’s also clear that Russia is in it to win it. They’ve been going at Ukraine (and by proxy, the US and NATO) for just over a thousand days, and they’re winning despite all that NATO and the US have done to prop up the Kiev regime.
When the BBC runs the headline “Ukraine front could 'collapse' as Russia gains accelerate, experts warn” you know it’s over. All that money Blinken has promised to shove out the door, the new land mines the Biden administration has just approved for Ukraine (those are illegal, banned and roundly condemned by 150+ countries, btw), all those unaudited, unaccountable billions we’ve thrown into this proxy war—I can’t see we’ve gotten much out of it except some dead Russians and a lot of dead Ukrainians. Now it looks like Blackrock won’t get its grubby little mitts on Ukraine’s vast resources, either; not if Cousin Vlad has his way. Which he will.
Meanwhile, “Perhaps the most shocking revelation from this entire incident is just how rudderlessly the United States sleepwalks into potential nuclear war, led by a demented ‘Commander-in-Chief’ who’s clearly not making any of the precipitative escalatory decisions.” (From Simplicius’ most recent Substack, linked below. His recent pieces are among the best sources I’ve found for what might really be happening in Ukraine.)
Whatever crab-bucket of frustrated Bidenites is actually calling the shots, combined with the Deep State/Intelligence Community/Swamp/Blob, whatever you call it, wanting to continue to prop up their Eurasian puppet regime and playpen—their idiocy is going to get thousands or millions killed if they’re not stopped.
Is that supposed to be Congress’ job? And what about that old video clip from 2007 of Senator Biden saying President Biden should be impeached for declaring war without the approval of Congress? I put a link to the transcript below, or you can watch it on Rep. Thomas Massie’s X feed.
No, ‘07 Joe didn’t say ‘24 Joe should be impeached, but the principle is exactly the same. That clip needs to be played at his impeachment, for sure.
And yet, Congress seems to be too busy keeping Matt Gaetz out of the AG’s office, or spasming over the Congress’ first boy in a dress wanting to use the Congressional Ladies Room, to pull us back from the brink of war.
The Hill proudly ran the header “World War III is now Trump’s to Lose,” even though it’s not Trump who’s frantically trying to get us into WW III. They went on to prattle that “Negotiations with Russia would be futile. History tells us that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s words are meaningless,” despite it not being Putin who repeatedly ignored the Minsk accords. And what about the peace treaty that Boris Johnson was sent to Kiev to intentionally scuttle? What about the petitions from all those mayors in Eastern Ukraine for relief from Kiev’s persecution to Putin and the Duma? The Duma voted to ask President Vladimir Putin to recognize the self-declared Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics in Ukraine as independent nations before the Special Military Operation started—which is much more “democratic” than anything we’ve seen out of the Democrats lately.
Now the warmongers and sour grapes set think they can bluff Putin, escalate the war beyond even Trump’s ability to stop, and generally add this to the huge pile of obstruction we’re already seeing from the Swamp.
Yes, Congress could stop this. Some, like Rep. Keith Self of Texas are trying, but it’s not enough. The rest are too weak, too corrupt, too compromised or too few to do what needs to be done—and don’t think it’s going unnoticed.
Matt Gaetz’s withdrawal from consideration for Attorney General unmasked quite a few quislings. Some others are openly declaring their intentions to Resist, Resist, Resist. We weren’t supposed to notice that big paper shredder service truck outside Justice a few days ago, but we did. And now Mayorkas is trying to negotiate his exit, including immunity from prosecution from Trump’s new team? Yeah, no. I can’t see that happening.
Right now, we’re just holding on by our fingertips, hoping that Vladimir Putin is strong enough to show restraint for another 57 days. As Tucker Carlson and Glenn Greenwald recently discussed, he may not be able to. If these escalation attacks continue, he may have no choice but to give back as good as he gets, or more.
Russia has made it perfectly clear that they no longer view this as a proxy war, but as a direct war between Russia and NATO. I seriously doubt Russia wants to throw the first nuke, but they may be pushed to it if they think a massive jump-bid will shock some sense into the West. And then? With a bunch of desperately insane Deep Staters in the Biden White House—whether it’s still “his” or nominally Kamala’s—having decided the risk of nuclear war is preferable to having Trump back in office?
God help us all.
Kinda makes the fuss over which potty Congress’ first boy in a dress will use seem kinda ridiculous, doesn’t it?
