The people's voice of reason
Monday, November 11, 2024 is Veteran's Day. It is a federal and state holiday meaning that most federal and state government buildings are closed, banks, many schools, all courthouses, and some businesses are closed today in honor of the veterans who served this country from the Revolutionary War all the way to the present struggles in the Middle East.
The United States has a long proud tradition of Americans or all races, ethnic heritages, and incomes coming together to fight our nation's foes all over the globe. That tradition is carried on today by the soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines who serve in our nation's armed forces.
President Joseph R. Biden (D) issued a proclamation in honor of those veterans:
"Today, we honor generations of America's veterans - patriots who have stood on the frontlines of freedom and kept the light of liberty shining bright around the world," President Biden wrote. "Just as they have kept the ultimate faith in our Nation, we must keep ultimate faith in them. Each one of our Nation's veterans is a link in a chain of honor that stretches back to our founding days - bound by a sacred oath to support and defend the United States of America. Throughout history, whenever and wherever the forces of darkness have sought to extinguish the flame of freedom, America's veterans have been fighting to keep it burning bright."
Senator Katie Britt (R-Alabama) also released a statement thanking veterans.
"Today, we honor our veterans who defended our liberty and Constitution," said Sen. Britt on X. "To every brave American who wore our nation's uniform: We are the Land of the Free because of you, the Brave. Thank you for your service and sacrifice. #VeteransDay"
Senator Tommy Tuberville (R- Alabama) wrote on X, "Veterans Day allows us a moment to recognize every brave man and woman who have risked their lives to defend freedom and liberty. To all our veterans, thank you for your service and sacrifice to our country."
