Katie Britt says that the Hunter Biden pardon was a, "Self-serving slap in the face to everyday Americans"

December 2, 2024 - WASHINGTON, D.C.- the day after President Joseph R. Biden Jr. pardoned his son, Hunter Biden, U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Alabama) released a statement condemning the move by the lame duck President.

"This is yet another blatant broken promise by President Biden and exemplifies why he has been the most unpopular president in modern U.S. history," said Sen. Britt. "From concerned parents at school board meetings to President Trump, the Biden Administration has spent four years weaponizing the justice system to target its political adversaries. But President Biden sees one victim of lawfare: his own family. This blanket pardon is a self-serving slap in the face to everyday Americans and is an example of the type of two-tiered justice that the American people are sick of. The incoming Trump Administration has an electoral mandate to get politics out of the DOJ and restore blind justice under the law. President Trump has nominated a cabinet that is eager to fulfill that mandate and transparently deliver the change that hardworking American families want. I look forward to ensuring the Trump Administration can hit the ground running to accomplish these goals. January 20 can't come soon enough."

Hunter Biden was facing sentencing later this month on federal gun and tax evasion after being found guilty on felony gun charges and after pleading guilty to tax evasion in a separate case. Hunter has been found guilty of lying on a federal gun form when he marked that he was not drug addicted.

President Biden has promised repeatedly over the past eight months that he would not grant clemency to Hunter.

Biden disregarded his earlier statements of "No one is above the law" and instead suggested that Hunter had been targeted for political purposes. President Biden pardoned Hunter not only for the crimes we had already proven he had committed – lying on his gun background check and years of tax evasion – but also any other crime that he may have committed dating back to 2014.

"There was none and never has been any evidence of vindictive or selective prosecution in this case," Special counsel David Weiss wrote in a court filing.

Many Republicans had predicted that this day would come.

Congressman Robert Aderholt (R-AL04) said on the X social media platform, "President Biden said he would not pardon his son. But I think we all knew he ultimately would. And we were right."

By pardoning Hunter for not just the tax evasion and gun charges but also anything else that Hunter may have done Weiss that means that Hunter will not go to prison, and that also means that Weiss and other special prosecutors will not be able to put pressure on Hunter to testify against other members of the Biden family and their possible coconspirators. Prosecutors have long suspected that Hunter Biden was trafficking in influence and access to the President. Now it is highly unlikely that Hunter will ever testify to any of that. Hunter also could have been prosecuted for drug charges. It is widely believed that two separate bags of cocaine found at the White House actually belonged to Hunter.

Now there will be no consequences for that or any of Hunter Biden's other crimes.
