Marshall joins coalition of Republican attorney generals urges the Senate to confirm Pam Bondi

December 3, 2024 – MONTGOMERY, AL - Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall (R) joined a coalition of 30 current and future state attorneys general urging the United States Senate to swiftly confirm former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi as the 87th United States Attorney General.

"President Trump made an incredibly wise decision by appointing Pam Bondi as the next United States Attorney General," said Attorney General Marshall. "I have known Pam for a long time, and she possesses the heart of a prosecutor. She will boldly enforce the rule of law and will restore the public's confidence in the Department of Justice. I look forward to working with Attorney General Bondi and making the rule of law great again."

Marshall signed a letter to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-New York), Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky), and Minority Whip John Thune (R-South Dakota).

"Many of us have worked with Attorney General Bondi, and we have witnessed firsthand her legal acumen, her passion for justice, and her steadfast commitment to the rule of law," the AGs wrote. "And equally as important, we have found her to be fair-minded, impartial, and collegial. In short, she is a superb choice to serve our nation and the public interest."

The coalition is co-led by South Carolina and Florida. The letter outlines what they view as Pam Bondi's many accomplishments during her time as Florida Attorney General.

"During the worst days of the opioid crisis, she demonstrated extraordinary leadership, working with the Florida Legislature to shut down pill mills, initiating litigation to hold bad actors accountable, and taking many other actions designed to curb drug abuse, including championing bans on synthetic drugs," the letter continued. "She was also a fierce advocate against human trafficking, leading efforts to increase tools for prosecutors to protect victims and hold traffickers accountable." "General Bondi is exceedingly well prepared to be the 87th United States Attorney General. She will bring to the office a unique combination of civil and criminal experience and a tenacious work ethic. Most importantly, she will bring a steadfast and unwavering commitment to the rule of law."

In addition to Alabama, South Carolina's Attorney General, and the Florida Attorney General, attorneys general and attorneys general-elect from 26 other states including Arkansas, Alaska, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wyoming joined the letter.

President Trump had originally nominated controversial Congressman Matt Gaetz (R-Florida); but numerous allegations surfaced about Gaetz's personal life so he ultimatel withdrew his nomination.
