The people's voice of reason
November 22,2024 - The stage adaptation of Charles Dickens' Christmas classic, "A Christmas Carol" opens this weekend at The Alabama Shakespeare Festival. Based on the novella by Charles Dickens, who had a deep interest in Christmas, "A Christmas Carol" relates the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, who is a penny-pinching miser, yet becomes transformed into a benevolent and friendly man after being visiting by the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet To come.
Considered an allegory of Christian redemption, "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens has had an enduring popularity over the centuries since it was first published in 1843. In fact, many common phrases in the English language are derived from "A Christmas Carol" such as "Bah! Humbug", "Dead as doornail," and Tiny Tim's endearing "God bless us, everyone!"
The Alabama Shakespeare Festival's production of "A Christmas Carol" is under the auspices of former ASF Artistic Director Rick Dildine who is returning to make this adaptation of "A Christmas Carol" on the Festival Stage a joyful one that the entire family can enjoy. It is age appropriate for anybody five years-old and up since it does have themes of death and poverty in the play. The ASF's production of "A Christmas Carol" will run from November 21st through December 29th, 2024, and it lasts two hours with a fifteen-minute intermission.
Those interested in purchasing tickets can do so online at ASF.net or call the Alabama Shakespeare Festival at (334) 271-5353. Tickets can also be purchased in-person at the box office with the ticket prices ranging from $30 to $70.
