The people's voice of reason

UAB football was uncompetitive against Army

The University of Alabama Birmingham Blazers football team went to Westpoint and were completely by the cadets of Westpoint. Most of the Army players will be officers in the U.S. Army within four years – some of them as soon as this time next year; but on Saturday they were the better athletes in this one sided matchup between them and the Blazers.

Army destroyed UAB 10 to 44. The Black Knights are an American Athletic Conference opponent making the loss even more of a disaster.

UAB won their opening games – and hasn't won since. UAB falls to 1 and 5 on the season and 0-3 Army was the more physical, more athletic, team with the most heart. Army remains undefeated at 6 and 0 on the season and 5 and 0 in the AAC. Army remains on track to potentially the AAC champion and the best of five representative in the inaugural 12 team playoff. The loss means that it is now virtually impossible for UAB to win six games and end the season bowl eligible in head Coach Trent Dilfer's second season.

Army quarterback Bryson Daily scored at will on UAB. He was clearly the best athlete on the field Saturday. Daily ran the ball 12 times for 136 yards and four touchdowns. He also passed for 102 yards and a touchdown. Army had over 500 yards of offense on the porous UAB defense.

This was the second start for backup quarterback Jalen Kitna. He completed 25 passes on 39 attempts for 242 yards. He threw a pass to Amare Thomas for UAB's one and only touchdown of the day. UAB's leading receiver was Kam Shanks who had nine catches for 119 yards.

The UAB defense simply could not compete against the nation's top rushing attack. Army scored on their first five possessions in a game that was never competitive.

The game was essentially over at halftime with Army leading 34 to 0.

Army held UAB's anemic running game to just 61 yards; while Army rushed for 413.

UAB plays on the road with the University of South Florida next. Kickoff is at 2:30 p.m. CDT. The game will be televised on ESPN+.
