The people's voice of reason
With just some four weeks to the big election day, we are going to hear more about the integrity of the election results on November 5th. Following the 2020 elections, there were a lot of questions around the Nation about potential voter fraud, including right here in Alabama .
Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen is doing his part to stop any efforts to commit fraud at the ballot box. Allen has also aggressively worked to make sure only Alabama citizens can vote by working to remove names off the election rolls suspected of being ineligible to vote. The United States Justice Department has sued to block Allen’s efforts in federal court. Hopefully, the state will prevail as well as we approach November 5th.
Another initiative of Secretary of State Allen is a collaboration between Alabama and six other states to compare voter files to ensure there are accurate voter files. The memorandum of agreement with these other states allows each state to cross-check their voter files to identify individuals that may be registered to vote in other states. Having a cooperative agreement between these secretly of states has given Allen the ability to do what he has promised, which is an Alabama Voter Integrity Database that uses numerous sources to ensure that only those qualified can vote at the polls.
Partnering with Allen, Alabama lawmakers have also worked to ensure that some of the same issues that have occurred at the polls in other parts of the country do not happen in our state. Thus, members of the Alabama Senate and House of Representatives passed a number of laws to prevent fraud at the ballot box. Kudos to Alabama leaders for their efforts to protect state elections.
Between the new laws put in place by the Alabama Legislature and programs like these by the Secretary of State, Alabama voters should have confidence on election night when the polls close.
