The people's voice of reason
October 31, 2024 – the general election is upon us and the Alabama Gazette is urging Alabamians of all political views to make their voices heard and get out and vote on November 5. Whatever your political beliefs, we ask that you prayerfully and carefully consider your ballot as what you decide will impact America for generations to come.
The staff and publishers at the Alabama Gazette have carefully considered all the candidates and these are the races where we are comfortable with making endorsements.
1) In the race for President of the United States we are recommending former President Donald J. Trump. Trump did much to improve our border security. The remain in Mexico policy for immigrants seeking asylum and the construction of the border wall were long overdue improvements in our border security. Alas most of his work in this regard was undone by President Joseph R. Biden who has allowed more than ten million illegal immigrants to enter the country in defiance of the immigration laws already on the books at a cost of over $100 billion to the taxpayers. Trump's economic policies contributed to rising wages, a growing workforce, bringing manufacturing jobs back into this country, while keeping inflation at bay. Biden's policies grew government at all levels while growing inflation and the gap between rich and poor. On the foreign policy level Trump crushed ISIS and kept the peace. Under Joe Biden the U.S. has gotten heavily involved in a war in Central Europe, tensions with the Chinese and North Koreans have increased, and U.S. forces naval in the Red Sea have had to defend themselves against drone and missile attacks from Islamic extremists and terrorists and relations with Iran have gotten so bad that the U.S. and Israel have twice had to intercept missiles and drones. World War III could happen if the right match is struck. It is not entirely fair to blame Vice President Kamala Harris for the failures of the Biden Administration; but there is little evidence that her presence in this administration has benefited the American people in any substantive way and she has failed to articulate a vision for the future that we can have any confidence in. We believe that Trump is the best choice to lead Alabama.
2) In Congressional District 2, we endorse Caroleene Dobson. Dobson is a national merit scholar, a Harvard graduate, and a Baylor School of Law graduate. Upon finishing her education she could have gone anywhere in the country and found success; but she chose to return to Alabama where her family have been farmers and ranchers for over a century. She has deep roots in Alabama and is just the kind of citizen representative that we need representing Alabama. The Alabama Gazette believes in small government and traditional Alabama values. We need a Congressional representative who will represent those values and oppose any further erosion of our freedoms to a federal government that has become too big, too powerful, and the single greatest threat to our liberties instead of the guarantor of those freedoms. We believe that Dobson is the best choice moving forward for the people of Alabama and urge everyone to vote for Dobson on November 5.
3) For Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court we recommend that everyone vote for Sarah Stewart. Stewart has served honorably and capably on the Alabama Supreme Court for years. Prior to that she was one of our best judges. She brings both a conservative judicial philosophy and decades of real-world trial court to the office. In Alabama the Chief Justice is not only the head of the state's highest court; but the head of the state's entire court system. We think Stewart is the most capable person to lead our courts and work towards reducing some of this court backlog, while still making sure that justice is done for all of the people of Alabama.
4) In Congressional District 1 we are wholeheartedly endorsing Congressman Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) for a third term. Moore supports an America first agenda, Alabama farmers, and traditional values.
5) In Congressional District 6 we are endorsing Congressman Gary Palmer (R-Hoover) for a sixth term. Palmer has been a champion of America's energy independence, peace through strength, and has been a voice of reason in the often-fractious House Republican Caucus.
6) In Congressional District 3 we are endorsing Congressman Mike Rogers (R-Saks). Mike is presently the Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee where he is fighting to modernize the military, keep us ahead of the Chinese and Russians in new technology like hypersonics and anti-ballistic missile systems, while protecting our service members from woke social experiments.
7) In Congressional District 5 we are endorsing Congressman Dale Strong (R-Huntsville). Dale is supportive of our armed forces and first responders and will be a solid conservative voice for our farmers and securing our homeland.
8) In Congressional District 4 we are endorsing Congressman Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville). Rep. Aderholt is the senior returning Republican member of the powerful House Appropriations Committee. In addition, Aderholt has been a champion for life and faith causes both here at home and around the world.
Polls open at 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday and close at 7:00 p.m. Remember to bring a valid photo ID with you to the polls and vote at the polling place which you are assigned.
