The people's voice of reason
-November 6, 2024–Robin Litaker was unsuccessful in her attempt to unseat 14-year incumbent Terri Sewell in the AL-7 Congressional race.
As of midnight, with 65 of 67 counties reporting, the Alabama Secretary of State website had Democrat Sewell leading 178,747 votes (63.1%) to Republican Litaker's 104,292 votes (36.8%).
Litaker watched the election results come in at the Tuscaloosa County Republican Headquarters. Earlier in the evening Litaker declined a request from the Gazette for a comment on the race.
Litaker is a Homewood resident and former Alabama Teacher of the Year. Litaker has been a frequent candidate but has never before held public office.
Sewell, who was first elected in 2010, remains as of this writing the only Democrat in the Alabama delegation. It is likely she will be joined by Democrat Shomari Figures, who at midnight was leading Republican Caroleene Dobson in AL-2 by 55% to 45%.
Litaker is a retired schoolteacher and principal.
