Alabama Republican Party is working to elect Caroleen Dobson to Congressional District 2

October 31, 2024 – MONTGOMERY – Alabama is currently represented in the House of Representatives by six Republicans and one Democrat. The federal court system, civil rights groups, and the Alabama Democratic Party hopes to change that to two Democrats in Tuesday's election. The Alabama Republican Party however is doing everything it can to retain the recently redrawn Congressional District 2 in GOP hands.

On Thursday, the Alabama Republican Party announced that one of the Republican Party's primary targets this season is Congressional District 2, which has garnered national attention following a federal court-ordered redistricting that completely reshaped the district geographically. Where the old CD2 was reliably Republican the new CD2 was drawn by the court to lean Democratic. The Alabama GOP says that it has held nothing back in the fight to retain the seat by electing GOP nominee Caroleene Dobson.

The GOP says that to accomplish this feat it is implementing a comprehensive strategy that includes voter registration drives, volunteer recruitment, direct mail, and targeted Get Out The Vote efforts to help Dobson win.

The Alabama GOP's recent work in District 2 includes a massive direct mail campaign that consists of eight targeted mailers showcasing Dobson's qualifications and leadership qualities, while also underscoring the potential risks posed by Democratic control in Washington.

"We are not going to give up or surrender any districts to the Democrat Party," said Alabama GOP Chair John Wahl. "Our goal is to stand strong for the people of Alabama and explain to them why the values of the Republican Party best serve them and their families in the coming years. We all know that the policies of the Democrat Party have failed the people of America and the people of Alabama. It is the Republican Party that has a record of defending and helping our state. Our party cut the grocery tax, passed school choice, and helped create much-needed jobs for communities across Alabama. Next Tuesday, there is a clear choice. Republicans will rebuild our economy, reduce inflation, secure our borders, and protect our children from transgender ideologies. We will always defend your God-given rights and freedoms, and we will put America first again."

Former State Representative Perry O. Hooper Jr. (R-Montgomery) is a widely published columnist on political topics including for the Alabama Gazette.

Hooper told the Gazette that elected Caroleen Dobson is vitally important for not just the Second District; but also for the good of the state and the nation.

"It is extremely important for the good of the country that we elect Caroleene Dobson in District Two," said Hooper. "The fate of control of the House of Representatives could swing on the race."

Hooper believes that President Donald J. Trump (R) will be re-elected on Tuesday; but "In order to get his proposals passed into law he has to have control of both Houses of Congress in order for him to be able to make America great again."

"Everyone is needed to go to the polls on Tuesday to re-elect the greatest President in the history of the country and elect Caroleene as our Congress Lady to help make America great again."

Hooper was the chair of the Trump victory fund in 2016. He served in the Alabama House of Representatives from 1983 to 2003.

Dobson is a wife, mother, rancher, and attorney originally from Beatrice, Alabama. She currently lives in Montgomery with her husband and children. She is a graduate of Harvard University and the Baylor School of Law. Growing up, she was a national merit scholar who excelled in rodeo.

She was also recently endorsed by country music superstar Lee Greenwood, who has also endorsed Trump.

Dobson faces former Deputy Attorney General Shomari Figures.

The Alabama Republican Party said in a statement that it is fully engaged in an all-out campaign to secure victory for Republican candidates across the state. With more than 40 target seats, this year represents one of the most intense and ambitious campaigns for the Alabama GOP in recent history. In addition to down-ballot races, the party is especially targeting the newly drawn congressional districts and assisting the Trump team in nearby battleground states.
