The people's voice of reason
On Saturday, UAB picked up its first loss of the season when the Blazers traveled to play ULM at Malone Stadium. The Warhawks crushed the Blazers in a 32 to 6 rout.
UAB could not stop the ULM run game. The Warhawks rushed the ball 48 times for 205 yards and 2 touchdowns. ULM's Car'lin Vigers returned an interception 30 yards for another touchdown. UAB also turned it over twice on fumbles. ULM added three field goals and a safety. UAB scored on one field goal in the first quarter and a field goal in the second quarter; but was outscored 19 to 0 in the second half.
UAB quarterback Jacob Zeno completed 22 of 32 passes for 167 yards with ones interception and no touchdowns. He was sacked five times. Lee Beebe Jr. led the team in rushing with 62 yards.
It was a reunion of sorts for UAB and the Warhawks. ULM head coach Bryant Vincent was the interim head coach at UAB when head Coach Bill Clarke had to give up coaching due to chronic back problems. Vincent coached at UAB from 2014 to 2022. UAB elected to hire former NFL quarterback and ESPN analyst Trent Dilfer instead. Six UAB assistant coaches, as well as players, and athletics department staff joined Coach Vincent to Louisiana.
ULM improves its record to 2 and 0 on the season; while UAB (1-1) picks up its first loss.
The Blazers will step up in competition on Saturday when they travel to Fayetteville to play Arkansas. Kickoff is at 3:15 p.m. CDT on the SEC Network.
