The people's voice of reason

Auburn predictably falls to 2 and 4 in Athens

Saturday ended as virtually everyone predicted beforehand – with the Hugh Freeze led Auburn Tigers losing to the Georgia Bulldogs. Auburn falls to 0 and 3 in the Southeastern conference and 2 and 4 overall. The Tigers could – in theory – rally down the stretch and win 5 of their last 6 to end the year with a winning record and salvage a trip to the Music City Bowl. That scenario seems awfully unlikely to anybody who was watching the game Saturday.

Auburn's offense struggled to finish drives – a problem that Auburn has consistently shown under Coach Freeze. Georgia led 7 to 3 after the first quarter and 14 to 3 at halftime. Auburn finally got in the endzone in the third quarter for 21 to 10 score at the end of the third quarter. Georgia broke the game open in the fourth quarter adding 1o points to Auburn's 3 for the final score of 31 to 13.

Auburn Senior Quarterback Payton Thorne had a respectable 16 completions on 27 attempts for 200 yards; but no touchdowns.

Auburn standout Running Back Jarquez Hunter ran the ball 13 times for 91 yards and Auburn’s only touchdown.

Auburn Senior Wide Receiver KeAndre Lambert-Smith had seven receptions for 95 yards.

Auburn’s offense struggled (yet again) with predictable offensive play calling and a scheme that is not difficult for modern SEC defensive coordinators to scheme against.

The Georgia win combined with Alabama and Tennessee’s losses to Vanderbilt and Arkansas puts the Bulldogs squarely back on course as the favorite to be in the SEC championship game.

Hugh Freeze is now 8 and 12 in his tenure at Auburn.
