The people's voice of reason
So the IRS hires “armed” agents. The Municipal Police are funded with Federal Funds to hire officers. Good moves, perhaps. Certanly well intended. And yet we have backlogs of willing, skilled workers - how and where? In the Immigration Departments - a literal Admin level of incompetence which is glaring.
Consider reality - A good friend of mine owns a tire shop. My back left wheel has been out of alignment a while and yet upon his shop’s advice - it was just the tie rod. I knew better or suspected better. Yes, I will go back to his shop. But while, I respect my friend and his American tire shop worker. But I took the vehicle to a “local” Tire in Bhm.
Rather than a new tie rod or axle as recommended - the short Hispanic man offered to “replace & balance”, “replace & balance”, “replace & balance”. And so he did - $40. Cash. He took off the wheel - placed it on two basic pieces of equipment - and within 10 minutes - this man resolved my $500-$2,500 problem for $40 cash. He spoke little English, but with another intermediary shop worker it was deduced that he’s been in the US since 1984 - and that “without papers”. So going on forty years - 40 Years - an “immigration paperwork” problem but he fixed my tire and balanced my wheel in 10 minutes with a smile.
Like a motivated ignoramus, dependent upon a confident “tire guy” - I drove around with a wobbly back end in my Honda Odyssey for weeks even attending the National Eucharistic Revival through a twenty hour round trip with a wobbly back end. I knew it was not the tie rod or axle - in my spirit. But I was powerless and without the equipment to “fix the problem”.
Yet this man - sweet kind face, soft yet greasy hands, only as tall as my sternum - fixed it for $40 cash - while “we” as Americans via our Immigration System cannot or have not “fixed” his “papers”. Now as I drive by going to Mass or the VA or to a meeting - I think about my friend - humbly fixing problems for cash - clearly not a threat to anyone - and yet not honored. His bodily presence is considered “illegal” and yet he has been solving problems for forty years - clearly without committing actual crime.
Those are much of the “Americans” which actually means “workers” in one facet of the epistemology - one honored with the “opportunity” to work - but not legally per se. The Taxpayers deserve better - it is not a matter of “Law” but administration. For the Immigration laws are sufficient. And thus - rather than hiring IRS agents - how about staff up the Immigration Departments and let’s put these immigrant “problem solvers” on the books.
Those human resources moves (1) decriminalizing by Executive Order and (2) staffing up for proper administration of our immigration las - will be the two single most valuable Executive Branch moves that can be made because they impact “human resources” - it (1) frees up workers and legal commerce and (2) it binds in those already present or who want to migrate legally by bedding up the process to track them. The IRS does not create “revenue” but these “human resource” moves - will actually boost the economy. Consider the same. For in the Bible the “King of Tyre & King of Sidon” are considered over Cities of great burden and lawlessness. A form of government which is impractical due to oppression and corruption. We should consider the immigrants and class systems created by disenfranchising laws - and “free the people”. They are our most valuable assets as a nation, state and community.
