President Trump survives second assassination attempt

September 15, 2024 the FBI announced that it is investigating what appears to be a second assassination attempt on the life of former President Donald J. Trump (R). For the second time in just nine weeks gunshots were fired in his vicinity. The Trump campaign says that the former President is safe.

The FBI says that it is taking the lead in the investigation of the incident.

No details have been released; but the Associated Press is reporting that the Secret Service has fired shots at a suspected presidential assassin.

The AP is reporting that the assailant was armed with a Kalashnikov style semiautomatic rifle. The individual attempted to breach the security perimeter at the Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach, Florida.

According to media sources, Trump was playing golf and the armed would-be assassin nearly had access to the President: by putting the muzzle of his rifle through the fence at Trump National. He was within to 300 to 500 yards from the President but was encountered by his security detail instead.

After receiving fire from Secret Service agents the man left the rifle at the scene and fled. He has reportedly been apprehended in the next county and is in custody.

Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi released a statement on X saying that the agency is working with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office in investigating a "protective incident" involving Trump shortly before 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Guglielmi has confirmed that President Trump is safe.

Another attempted presidential assassin fired a rifle at President Trump on July 13 in Butler, Pennsylvania.

U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Senator) said on the X social media platform: "I'm glad to hear President Trump is safe. Join me in praying for him and for our country."
