The people's voice of reason
September 24, 2024 – Moody, Alabama – The Moody Police Department (MPD) announced that they have made an arrest of an individual for making threats to Moody Schools.
"We are aware of the screenshots being shared about a threat to Moody Middle School and the schools in general," the MPD announced in a statement released to Facebook on Monday. "We want the public to know that we are already investigating these threats currently. We will also have an increased presence at all schools this week."
The MPD said that there will be zero tolerance for threats against the schools.
"Let this serve as a first and FINAL WARNING," the MPD wrote. "ANY threats made against Moody schools, staff, or students-whether in person, online, or otherwise-will be met with immediate and serious consequences. This is NOT a joke, and we WILL NOT tolerate such behavior under any circumstances."
The MPD also fired a warning shot at students who may make threats as some sort of a juvenile prank.
"**To Students:** If you think it's funny or harmless to make threats, think again," the MPD continued. "You WILL be held accountable for your actions. Any student found making threats, regardless of intent, will face criminal charges and severe disciplinary action, up to and including expulsion. We WILL also press charges, and there will be NO second chances."
That warning was extended to parents.
"**To Parents:** If your child makes a threat, know that YOU too could face consequences," the MPD added. "We will pursue legal action to the fullest extent of the law against both the student AND the parent(s) or guardian(s). You are responsible for your child's actions, and there will be no leniency."
"We take the safety of our schools, students, and staff very seriously," the MPD warned. "Any and all threats will be prosecuted. Rest assured, Moody Police will investigate these threats fully with every resource available to us. If you or your child have ANY information that could assist MPD, we ask that you please call Central Dispatch at 205-884-3333, ask for a detective to call you and the appropriate person will call you back."
No details have been released about the suspect that has been arrested or if the suspect activities were limited to making terrorist threats or if actual planning and preparations for an attack were conducted.
The MPD has promised to release a statement to the press in the near future.
Moody is a city of 13,587 residents in St. Clair County.
