The people's voice of reason
Alabama Republican Party Chairman John Wahl released a statement following Sunday's assassination attempt on the life of former President Donald J. Trump (R) at Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach.
"Today marks an incredibly sad and heartbreaking day in the history of our nation," said Chairman Wahl. "It is tragic beyond words that anyone could believe that taking another person's life could further a political agenda. We must all remember that the individuals we see on television are not just political figures but human beings, with families, loved ones, and personal hopes and dreams. They live their lives like any of us and deserve the same respect, kindness, and protection afforded to every American."
Conservatives are blaming hysterical rhetoric comparing Trump to Hitler and claiming that he wants to end our democracy for the hatred that some individuals have for President Trump. They argue that this over the top rhetoric encourages acts of violence against Trump and other Republicans.
"For years, Democrats and their allies in the national media have labeled conservatives as radicals and extremists," Wahl said. "Yet today, we can clearly see where the real extremist threat lies-it lies with anyone, on either side of the political aisle, willing to degrade and dehumanize others because of their political beliefs. The open hatred and villainization of Donald Trump by Democrat leaders and leftists in the mainstream media has created an environment where political violence is becoming disturbingly normalized."
-
"A free society must allow for a fair debate over the issues without the demonization of those with opposing political viewpoints," stated Wahl. "Far too often, members of the Democrat Party and liberal activists within the press fan the flames of division and hatred in our country. We should all work to foster an environment that encourages constructive dialogue and allows the sharing of ideas, without pushing narratives that inflame tensions and encourage violence."
Wahl and the Alabama GOP condemned political violence.
"Political violence has no place in America, and the Alabama Republican Party stands united with President Trump and his family during this difficult time," Wahl concluded. "Our thoughts and prayers are with them and their loved ones. May God continue to protect him and our great nation."
The would be assassin got the muzzle of his AK-47 style rifle through the chain link fence at the golf course and was within 300 to 500 yards of President Trump, before he was spotted by the President's security detail who opened fire. The shooter - Ryan Wesley Routh. Routh fled the scene and is now in custody. Routh age 58 is a former construction worker from North Carolina. He has lived in Hawaii and claims to have worked to recruit international soldiers to fight for Ukraine.
Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung said in a statement that President Trump is "safe.".
"Fear not! I am safe and well, and no one was hurt. Thank God!" Trump said on social media.
The Alabama Republican Party held its Summer Dinner on Friday with Trump daughter-in-law Lara Trump as the featured speaker.
