Lara Trump to speak to Alabama Republicans

On Friday, the Alabama Republican Party announced that Republican National Committee Co-Chair Lara Trump, the daughter-in-law of former President Donald J. Trump, will be the speaker at the ALGOP's annual summer dinner.

The ALGOP said in a release that Lara Trump "has played a pivotal role in advancing conservative values and energizing the Republican grassroots base nationwide. As RNC Co-Chair, she has been instrumental in leading the party's strategic initiatives and rejuvenating the RNC with fresh energy."

Lara Trump rose to power within the RNC when longtime RNC Chair Ronna Romney McDaniel was unexpectedly ousted at the behest of Donald Trump and the Trump campaign in February. Lara Trump is the wife of Eric Trump.

"The ALGOP Annual Summer Dinner is one of Alabama's premier political events, and Lara Trump's visit continues the party's record of raising Alabama's profile nationwide by bringing in the biggest names in American politics," the ALGOP continued. "We hope that you make plans to join us.

The Dinner will take place on September 13 in Montgomery at the Renaissance Hotel and Conference Center. The dinner is at 7:00 p.m. A VIP reception will precede the event at 5:30 p.m.

While former President Trump's return to power is looking shaky at this point nationally in polling that shows a very tight race, Democrats have already conceded the State of Alabama to Trump and the GOP. Trump received 62% of the vote in Alabama in 2020 versus just 36.6 percent for Joseph R. Biden (D).

The focus for Alabama Republicans has been on holding on to the disputed Second Congressional District of Alabama. A federal court in Atlanta redistricted CD2 to put incumbent Congressman Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) and half the Wiregrass in CD1: while moving half of the City of Mobile into CD2 as well as all of Montgomery County (Montgomery had been divided between CD2 and CD7 previously). Without an incumbent, Montgomery attorney Caroleene Dobson (R) faces former Deputy U.S. Attorney General Shomari Figures (D) in a race with national implications on who controls the House of Representatives.
