Pro-Life group wants national protections for unborn children to remain in the GOP platform

On Tuesday, the leading national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America reiterated its call to preserve national protections for unborn children in the GOP platform ahead of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in July.

The group is urging former President Donald J. Trump (R) to keep the party platform strong on life in order to remain unified and defeat Joe Biden.

SBA Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser is the President of SBA Pro-Life America.

"If the Trump campaign decides to remove national protections for the unborn in the GOP platform, it would be a miscalculation that would hurt party unity and destroy pro-life enthusiasm between now and the election," said President Dannenfelser in a statement. "For over a month, the pro-life movement has sought assurances from the Trump campaign that it will not gut the pro-life plank of the platform, which has for 40 years asserted a 14th Amendment justification for opposing the human rights tragedy of our time. We are now just two business days away from the platform committee meeting and no assurances have been made. Instead, every indication is that the campaign will muscle through changes behind closed doors."

"For decades, passionate pro-life activists have been the grassroots backbone of the Republican Party," said Dannenfelser. "They believed the Republican Party had an ironclad commitment to protect the unborn. This alliance is at risk of being severely weakened next week in Milwaukee."

This election cycle, SBA Pro-Life America and its affiliated entities plan to spend $92 million to protect life across America. The groups' largest-ever voter contact program includes reaching 10 million voters-with four million visits directly at their homes-across eight key battleground states: Arizona, Georgia, Montana, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan and Ohio.

Democrats say that if a Republican Congress passes a nationwide ban on abortion or a fetal heart beat bill President Biden would veto it; but Trump would sign it – an assertion that President Trump denied during the debate, SBA Pro-Life America is committed to ending abortion in this country protecting all pre-born American children. Trump seemed to indicate during the debate that he was comfortable allowing state governments to decide whether or not they would protect unborn children and at what stage in the pregnancy the Mother would be allowed to terminate her child. Trump's comments were disturbing to pro-Life groups. Democratic strategists are hoping that the abortion issue will keep swing voters in battleground states from voting for Trump and congressional Republicans.

Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America is a network of more than one million pro-life Americans nationwide, dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders.
