Katie Britt tells Republican National Convention that grocery prices are up 21% under Biden/Harris

On Monday, U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Alabama) delivered remarks during prime time on the opening night of the 2024 Republican National Convention. Britt told the GOP convention that life has gotten "much more difficult-and way more expensive" under the Biden/Harris administration. Sen. Britt said that the price of groceries had risen 21% and that electricity bill are up 31% while interest rates on homes have doubled.

"We need to change the direction of our nation, and Donald Trump is the change we need," said Britt. "My fellow moms and dads across America – I think we all know raising a family is hard. Add in smartphones and protecting our kids on social media, and we already have plenty to worry about. But then Joe Biden and Kamala Harris came around. Now our lives are that much more difficult – and way more expensive."

"Under Biden-Harris, prices are high, and expectations are low," continued Britt. "Grocery prices are up more than 21%. Electricity is up 31%. Gas is up 48%. Mortgage rates doubled. Rent is skyrocketing."

"These aren't just numbers-this is pain for millions of Americans," said Britt. "It means that so many American families have to live with so much less. This is too high a price to pay for an administration that has brought us to such lows."

The debate in June made the nation painfully aware of how three and a half years in office has diminished President Joseph R. Biden (D).

"We see how Biden and Harris keep making things worse," said Britt. "And we know the current President is not capable of turning this around. His weakness is costing us our: Opportunity. Prosperity. Security. Safety. Each diminished. All in decline. Just like the man in the Oval Office."

"It doesn't have to be like this," Britt insisted. "Under President Trump, we had the strongest economy in history. You didn't need to go into debt just to make ends meet. Energy dominant. Stable prices. Secure borders. Safe streets. And strong families and communities. That's what Donald Trump will deliver."

"Your family can't afford this costly and dangerous decline for four more years," Britt warned.

The first day of the convention was action packed with a triumphant Trump arriving from New Jersey after being nearly assassinated in Pennsylvania on Saturday.

Katie Britt – who was just elected in 2022 – is a rising star in Republican circles. She delivered the Republican response to Biden's state of the state address.

Trump announced that he had chosen U.S. Senator J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) to be his running mate. The choice has been attacked by many mainstream media outlets; but the choice of the conservative Marine was well received by the Republican delegates to the convention.

The convention will continue on Tuesday.
