Kamala Harris would be ninth President with at least one foreign born parent

If likely Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris is elected to be the President of the United States, she would be the ninth President to have at least one foreign born parent.

The first was Thomas Jefferson (Anti-Federalist). Jefferson's mother was born in England. His father was a Virginia planter.

The second was Andrew Jackson (D). Both of Jackson's parents were both born in Ireland.

President James Buchanan's (D) father was also born in Ireland.

President Chester Arthur's (R) father was also born in Ireland.

President Woodrow Wilson's mother was born in England to Scottish parents.

Herbert Hoover's (R) mother was born in Canada.

The trend has become more common with modern Presidents.

President Barack H Obama's (D) father was born in Kenya.

Harris's opponent, President Donald J. Trump's (R) mother was born in Scotland.

Harris's father was born to a wealthy family in Jamaica. Harris's mother was born in India. Both of Harris's parents came to this country for higher education and became professors.

Andrew Jackson is the only one on the list where both of their parents were foreign born.
