Stallions to play Brahmas in UFL championship

The Stallions won their place in the United Football League (UFL) championship with their third win of the year over the Michigan Panthers on Saturday in the USFL Conference championship game. On Sunday, they found out who their opponent would be when the San Antonio Brahmas beat the St. Louis Battlehawks in the XFL Conference championship game.

The Brahmas led throughout culminating in the 25 to 15 win with 30,237 fans in attendance for the game.

The win improves San Antonio's record to 8 and 3. That Stallions are a league best 10 and 1, but that one loss was to the Brahmas. Crimson Tide legend and former Cincinnati Bengal A.J. McCarron completed 19 passes out of 29 attempts for 179 yards and a touchdown for the Battlehawks, but it was not enough to overcome the Brahmas.

The Brahmas offense had 410 total yards, including 213 yards rushing. Anthony McFarland Jr. had the league's longest rush of the season with a 69-yard sprint for a touchdown on their first play of the second half. QB Chase Gabers completed a 63-yard touchdown pass to Justin Smith. Gabers was 15 out of 21 attempts for 197 yards, with two touchdowns and one interception for the Brahmas.

The Brahmas are coached by former Dallas Cowboys and Den Broncos coach Wade Phillips.

Stallions quarterback Adrian Martinez was selected to the all-UFL team; but was benched Saturday for Matt Corral after a dreadful first half performance that includes some costly turnovers.

Stallions head coach Skip Holtz told reporters that he did not know who will start at QB for the Stallions in the UFL Championship game.

The Brahmas will face the Stallions on Sunday, June 16 at The Dome at America's Center in St. Louis, Missouri. The kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 PM CDT.

Holtz and the Stallions won the USFL Championship in both years in that league. In the offseason, the USFL and XFL merged into the UFL, jettisoning 8 teams as a result.

The game will feature a number of members of the inaugural all-UFL Team.

Stallions Quarterback Adrian Martinez, Stallions Tight End Jace Sternberger, Stallions Offensive Guard Zack Johnson, Brahmas Offensive Guard Kohl Levao, Stallions Defensive Tackle Carlos Davis, Brahmas Inside Linebacker Tavante Beckett, and Stallions Safety A.J. Thomas.
