Senate passes resolution led by Senators Katie Britt and Tommy Tuberville commending University of South Alabama's 60th Anniversary

On Friday, the United States Senate by unanimous consent this week passed a resolution introduced by U.S. Senators Katie Britt (R-Alabama) and Tommy Tuberville (R-Alabama) to celebrate the University of South Alabama's 60th anniversary.

The University of South Alabama was founded on May 3, 1963, and has since awarded over 90,000 degrees. Notably, the University's nationally recognized health system, USA Health, is the only academic health system along the upper Gulf Coast and continues to lead in research and cancer treatment. The resolution recognizes the University of South Alabama for its educational contributions, athletic programs, and outstanding community contributions that make it the "Flagship of the Gulf Coast."

"From its first class of 276 students, the University of South Alabama has grown to host more than 13,500 students annually who participate in over 115 undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs through its 10 colleges and schools," the resolution reads. "The University of South Alabama has distinguished itself by producing alumni who have excelled in various sectors, including research, medicine, business, education, engineering, the sciences, the arts, and athletics, among others. [...] [We commend] the University of South Alabama on the occasion of its 60th anniversary and its years of service to the State of Alabama and the United States."
